I know Dynatrac makes a front wheel conversion kit that converts SRW front axles on 3rd Gen Dodges to a serviceable bearing, spindle-mounted manual hub front.

Now, on chevy Dana 60s (and I believe on Ford as well), the front end stuff is all the same (bearings, spindles, seals, and spindles) and the only difference is the hub (just can't change between Chevy & Ford because of stickout length)

Where does Dynatrac get it's hubs? Is it a stock part from another vehicle? If that vehicle has a DRW version, then that hub SHOULD work... ...

Has anyone contacted Dynatrac about this possibility? I would be willing to pay the money to have a front end that disconnects the half shafts and has serviceable bearings. And I am willing to bet there are others out there as well.....

Thanks in advance,

Shane

While maybe a little extreme, I've been contemplating the idea of converting everything from the inner "c" out using Dedenbears "c" and steering knuckle .

This would allow the use of common Chevy Dana 60 hubs and get rid of the ball

joints for a more desireable kingpin setup. I'm not sure how the axle tube dia.

of the AAM compares to the Dana 60 and I think the u-joint is of a little different

variety (1485 vs. 1480 ), but I think it might be doable.

For all intents and purposes the kit is a Dana 60 setup, the only differences is the spindle. Dynatrac had to machine new ones because the AAM 9. 25 knuckle is a touch bigger. The seals, bearings, and manual locking hubs are all Dana numbers. Dynatrac offers this same kit for the super dutys.

I have never seen a kit offered for the DRW fords, I think the catchall problem was the wheel spacer, and the hub fitting thru it.

Check my readers rig pics for pictures of the kit

Someone was testing some dually adapters that they thought would work. I never did hear if it worked or not. Maybe they'll post up.

The Dynatrac spindle is limited to a 4 bolt mounting because that's what the factory unit bearing used , where as most dana 60s with serviceable bearings used 5 mounting

bolts in the case of ford and 6 on dodge and GM . I would like to see a stage 2 kit if you will that comes with a new steering knuckle having the 6 hole spindle pattern and

also geasable ball joints.

I guess the other question that begs to be answered:

Does the AAM and ball-joint D60 have the same sized inner-C?

IF they do, one could swap the ball joint Ford 60 knuckles on there.

The early balljoint Fords has a serviceable bearing setup IIRC

Kingpins would be nice, but I just can't bring myself to cutting the Cs off my over-the road truck I want to put over 300K miles on. If it was a wheelin rig, I could care less. Too concerned about durability/long-term strength of cutting/welding new Cs on. Even though I am very familar with the chevy D60 components, that is just a tough pill to swallow.

Oh and the day I wrote this, I emailed Dynatrac. I have yet to hear boo back from them on it

So they obviously gives a rats ***** about us as potential customers... .

I really have a thing against wheel spacers too: seen them fail too many times to feel safe with them at all
