fuel test

Hello to All

Here are two pictures of the fuel being tested with a hydrometer the temp is 60 degs reading at (. 935) so the reading is right this is telling me that the oil is heaver then diesel. diesel runs at . 850 or so.

Will have a pic of the same fuel at 120 degs it should be around . 840 so it will be lighter at that temp. as soon as it heats up a little.

Thinking that this blend only needs to be heated to 120 degs to be a lot like diesel fuel.

blend fuel

Hello Bob

Thanks its just something that needs to be done. and I hope its hellping other people.

I would like to thank you for all the work you and marco have done and are doing with the smarty. there are only a few trucks running them here the ones that have them really like them.

Thanks again

engine oil tests

Hello to All

Both trucks got the oil changed in them last week.

the 05 had 4327 miles on from the last change in Dec of 06.

the soot level is going up on this one 164 vs 158 not a huge jump but it is up.

all the rest looks the same

This truck is going to get a bypass filter within the next few months this should help with the soot in the oil.

The 04 had 2989 miles on from the last change in Apr 07

the soot level on the oil was going up the first test was 13 then 23 jumped to 72 now is down to 25

The only thing I can think of is the winter time and the different blends of kero and gas it gets. more Kero/Jet A /RUG

But any way all the tests show normal and thats good news

fuel and trucks

Hello to All

The trucks are running just fine nothing new to report on them.

The only new thing is that I have decided to build a centrifuge to help settle and filter the oil that I am getting. this will speed up the process of having to let the sun and heat do it. the parts are on there way to me and I will start building it as soon as they get here.

My thoughts are making it so that when I get oil ,take it home and start geting it ready to clean the unit will be gravity feed and I am thinking that heating the oil with a solar heat exchanger. and that a solar pump to pump the clean oil in to storage tanks . this might change as the unit comes together time will tell on this.

Fuel

hello to all

I took the 04 up to the mountans this weekend had a great time and got away from the heat the truck with camper 12000 lbs + so the milage is not the best we did get around 14 mpg for the whole trip.

The centrifuge parts came late last week and I will be getting the rest of the parts made in the next two weeks . The only change that has been made so far is that I will be building two of them on not just one as planed this will help speed up the amount of oil I will be able to process.

fuel

Hello to All,

The trucks are running great, all three of them!

Took the 04 up to Livingston this past weekend for a gathering of other people looking at alternative fuels and alternative ways to power drive and live. The truck ran great all the way up and back. It's only 115 miles one way. so not too long of a trip. I always laugh at the participants at this event who tell me that filtered WVO doesn't work. I tell them that I sure hope I make it home and ask them if they can give me a ride!:-laf:-laf:-laf

The 01 Dodge is back on the road also. We got it running on Friday. It seems the makers of the F. A. S. S. pump use a proprietary filter on their 95 Series pump. The water block filter can be found but the main fuel filter can't be found. You have to buy it from F. A. S. S. for $23. 00 a piece. I understand why they do it but when you live in the middle of Montana, and there aren't any filters available for 500 miles it becomes a real problem. We found a way around this problem by removing the filter stub on the pump and machining the hex off of it. It will then accept a Baldwin replacement filter that costs $12. I hope the makers of the F. A. S. S. pump change the way they make their product so it will accept a more easily attainable filter. If not, you know how to reach me!

fuel and changes to system

Hello to All

Have made a few changes to the way the oil is handled, was letting the oil sit then heating it up with band heaters to 212 degs then filtering it and mixing it into fuel.

What I am doing now is letting the oil sit then heating the oil to 212 degs(this also will be changing I will be building a solar heater for heating the oil this will be done after the centrifuge is done)then filtering it for 12 hrs (this to will be changing to a one pass filter going to the storage unit 5 micron) at this point it goes in to a new storage unit then I will have a stock pile of filtered oil ready to make fuel.

the fuel will be filtered for 12 hrs when its mixing with the kero/gas/powerservice/additive. (this to has a bit of a change in it,the products are the same just the amounts have changed more on this later,)

I have been thinking about this for some time and thought it would be a good time to tell about whats new.

Here are two picture's of the stroage tank and pump.

Thanks for reading.

Setup looks good CJ. I'm looking forward to building a new place that will have more space as well as a storage shed away from the house which I'll use to make DSE fuel more effectively and efficiently like you are.

So what are you doing different with your mix ratios?

Can you post your email addy again? I'm interested in some filters & recipe :)

fuel

Hello Vaughn

The ratios have changed a little, waiting on an test of the oil to make sure its ok then I will tell more info but the products are the same only the amounts have changed, the way I process the oil has changed.

Looking at a few more ways of cleaning the oil.

my email is

-- email address removed --

The info for the DSE type of additive info will cost 50. 00. I have sold it to 6 other people and as far as I know everyone is happy with what they end up with. Its easy to get and really cheep compared to getting the additive from them.

I have the filters is stock so shipping them out is not a problem just let me know what micron bags you want when you order.

Thanks

trip, oil and centrifuge

Hello to All

I have been out of town so the posting is a little late .

Went to Colorado Springs the first of the month took the 04 down there 625 miles one way truck ran great all the way down and back running blend fuel all the way.

The best thing about the truck is the fuel tank 50+ gallons of fuel never stoped to put fuel in the truck and we got there I put 40 gallons in to fill it back up. put on 1600 miles on the truck for this trip, had a total of 150 gallons of fuel with me and only used 110 gallons on the trip. the fuel mileage was around 14. 5 this is not the best but I was running 85 to 95 mph on the highway most of the way across the state of WY. The return trip on sunday we left Colorado Springs at 12 noon and was parked in my drive way at 9. 15 that night we stoped in casper for a bite to eat sit down meal and three other stops for personal reasons. this makes it an average speed of 67. 50 miles per hr. The temp of the fuel in the tank ran 110 to 125 degs and the lift pump pressure never showed less than 12 psi the IP temp got to 158 degs in the heat of the day so it never did get very hot .

The engine oil has been changed and a sample has been sent off for testing. will post when this comes in. 61,000 total miles on the truck and thinking that 29,000 mile's of that running blend fuel

Today was a day of collecting oil and we did great. started at 1 pm and finished at 4. 30 pm and got 300 gallons of oil we only went to 4 places and we have 5 more to go to next week end.

The work on the centrifuge is slower than I would like but the person that is doing it is not charging much for the machine/welding work so I cant say to much about the time involved to get it done.

fuel and oil sample

Hello to All

Yes I did read the post (WVO-be careful) and I will not post my thoughts about it in that thread. I read the post all nine pages of it it is a good read but he did do thing's different and there is a lot of bashing in there. The bigest thing is the handling of the WVO. some of the damage might have been there before the wvo system was added. I will keep doing what I have been doing as far as the handling of the the oil.

If you are going to try WVO/SVO as a fuel the most important thing is the filtering of the oil. I have said this over and over there is no way to filter to much but you can filter it too little.

I did get the oil sample back from Cat last week

The ware rate is normal, all the same as last time.

They changed the test on the soot/oxi/nit/sul to an FTIR Analysis

The numbers have changed a lot

Soot last time was 25 this time its 4

Oxi last time 27 this time 14

Nit last time 58 this time 6

Sul last time 68 this time 20

I just saw that other thread too CJ but I haven't read the TDI one yet. Did he say if the WVO was heated? I know I wouldn't run SVO without doing the DSE and thinning process otherwise you are inviting potential problems.

hello vaughn

he said he heated the oil to 150 degs for a day but he did not say when they did that also the filtering of the oil to only 10 microns and again they did not say for how long.

hot pan water test would have saved him big time also filtering the oil for 12 plus hrs would have helped

I would almost bet he thought the oil only needed to go thru the filter once to get to 10 micron

these are the first three problems of many with the way the oil was handled.

talk to you later

Hey Cj

I got the recipe information OK. And just to let you know that I found everything needed in about 20 minutes and 3 phone calls. I’ve got everything needed all lined up and actually cheaper than I thought too. I had saved a day off to find everything, but I was actually done in 20 minutes. How easy is that? I’ll be making my own shortly.

info

Hello Tm

Good deal on finding it so fast.

Got to love making it so cheap.

Cost of veg fuel going down makes me smile :):):):):):)

Thanks again for the order.

recipe and pump

Hello Vaughn and Tim and to the others that have bought the recipe.

Thats great I really think that this and the gasoline is what makes this type of fuel work. If you mix the other stuff in first nothing really happens, but as soon as the gas and then this stuff goes in it changes it alot.

What I have seen when pumping just Veg Oil then adding the Kero with the oil at 100 degs the oil is pumping but the pump is having trouble with flow,The filters I use it takes a lot to pump the oil around. the kero thins it sum then add the power service, does not change much.

Add the gas and the pump starts pumping like its pumping water, then add the stuff (mock dse) and mix it and filter it for 12 hrs or more and you will have some great fuel. :)

Again Thank You all for the orders and have fun making veg fuel and enjoy the savings.

Oh I did replace my first pump tonight on my filtering unit it lost a seal and was making some noise, I did not look at it to close to find out what went bad in it the pumps are cheap and I have about 15 of them this pump ran around 5 days a week 24 hrs a day for the last year and 6 months I think a got my 25 bucks worth out of it.

fuel in chevy diesel

Hello to All

Found a person willing to try the fuel I make in a 2003 chevy diesel truck he uses this truck for work and is feed up with the price of diesel.

We just put in 8. 5 gallons he had 1/2 tank of diesel in his truck.

He has been thinking about doing this but just was not happy with some of the systems he has seen.

I will be posting as more info comes to me.

Thanks for reading.

Chevy update Centrifuge

Hello to All

The person with the 03 chevy stoped by yesterday and we filled up his truck with blend fuel. he is on his way to libby mt so this will be a road trip for the fuel in a chevy he took 21 gallons and he had 8. 5 gallons from last week so this would be running about 75% blend fuel in the truck

The centrifuge is in the works this week the base plate should be waterjet cut making the base out of 1/2 inch and then using 8 inch pipe for the inter wall and 12 pipe 1/2 wall for the outer wall the seal for the motor shaft will be machined in to the base. This will cut down on the welding movement and make things simple to repair. Will be posting pic as soon as I get them done.

This is over kill on the way its built but I really think that if one of the units comes apart I dont want it to get to the other.

All three trucks are running fine just turned 62,400 miles on the 04 so at the next oil change the truck will have run 1/2 its mileage on blend fuel that will be at 63,975. miles.
