fuel and truck update

hello to all

the truck is running fine i did have a small road trip last weekend we went to jackson ,wy. the truck ran great the only thing was the fuel pump was a little weird on the way down and the problem was gone away i think it was a filter issue but not really sure what. we put on 895 miles round trip and the milage was 18 mpg not as good as i thought it would be but i did drive when i could at 85 to 95 mph this does not help with mileage also one other thing the water pump went out it would leak a little about 1/2 gallon a day its all fixed and its back to normal

the fuel is working great and i will be going out to get more oil this weekend

fuel update

Hello All

The weather is a little cold but not as bad as they said it was going to be so that is the good news news.

The better news is that yesterday I was called by a food service company in Billings and the had a small problem seems that they droped some oil and broke open a small amount of oil this leaked on the boxes making the oil that is good not good to sale and they offered it to me. Found out that it was clear oil and that it is a mix of corn and canola oil used by a big chain fast food place. I told them I would come down and get it out of their way when I got there it was 140 gallons of new oil 35 bags 4 gallons in each bag. its at my house and I am starting to make it in to fuel.

the other thing is that the price of diesel has just hit the 3. 07 per gallon mark this am so getting 140 gallons of oil is like getting 430. 00

thanks for reading

WOW!

Some guys get all the luck. That will sure make filtering a lot easier. Enjoy the find; you'll be smiling even more as you pass the fuel stops with that batch.

cj,

We are now the proud owners of an '05 Jeep Liberty CRD. Seems to like the blend well enough, but 75% may be a little rich. It starts and idles perfectly, but misses a little at around 2300RPM. There's a "modification" I found mention of on the liberty forums called "ORM" (Off Road Modification) - that is, unplug the MAP sensor so that the EGR is disabled. Amazing how things smooth right out.

I suspect that running 50/50 with #2 should take care of the 2300RPM hiccups and eliminate the need for the ORM. So, we now have two rigs running around smelling like fried foods!

Keep you all posted if there's interest.

Regards,

Mark

jeep crd

hello mark

I want one of those jeeps also thats cool it likes the fuel keep us all posted on that.

what happens if you run it past the 2300 rpm mark does it miss??? also there are some performance boxes for that engine that might take the miss out. its so cool that you have another rig thats running veg oil.

post some pictures some time if you can

thanks for sharing the info.

cj,

The stumble is just when the engine is not under load at about that 2300 RPM spot - I think it's more of a 'lean' running stumble. As soon as you give it a touch to accelerate, go uphill, etc it's gone. It has the full RPM range, etc, and both idle (even cold) and hard running are perfect.

Coming back home today, I didn't notice it at all... It's still at 75% or so; once I get it down to 3/4 tank I'll top it off with #2 and expect it'll be gone.

I'll get a pic sometime this week...

fuel

hello to all

things are going great the oil I got last week is ready to burn this weekend made it in to fuel it took a little longer than I wanted due to the fact I ran out of kerosene, thought I had about 5 gallons left but it turned out to be a gallon found this out friday night the good news is that the friend of mine that has helped me with this vegoil fuel and now is burning the same fuel in his truck found a supply of JET A, wll we went to get a little bit of it to see if this will work and wound up getting 80 gallons of it .

everthing we have read says that the JET A is dry kerosene and its refined and filtered cleaner than diesel #2 the batch we have made up has 4 gallons of this to 40 gallons of vegoil so if it is dryer I dont think its going to hurt anything. will be burning this later this week . Took the kero I had and a sample of the JET A and they look the same and smell the same.

the price was right on this so its worth a try :D

will be posting when we start burning it.

fuel in friends 01 dodge

hello all

we put 10 gallons in his 01 lastnight no problems with anything running JET A instead of kerosene. did not think it would matter as far as jet a vs kero. the smell is different but the oil is new so we think thats why. will be putting it in mine this weekend

new oil as fuel

Hello All

The new oil I got is in my trucks tank it has really no smell to it so thats kinda strange but its ok.

Wishing I had a gallon of Hemp oil or some other oil like Garlic oil to put some smell in the air. seems to run just fine I will keep posting on this the oil, it is a blend of corn and canola oil this is the first time running corn oil it does taste like corn oil so there is some in the oil.

Will keep posting

Thanks for reading.

Hi CJ...

Have some questions. I am a "newbi" to this alternable fuel talk. It took me a while to figure out some of the talk like, what "WVO" meant!

When you say you make the fuel, just what do you mean? How do you make the fuel?

Where would one buy the fuel already made?

Where would one buy the "raw" fuel to make usable?

Sorry for the dumb questions. I see this thread has been running for a few years and those following it are knowledgable on all the talk. I'm just trying to catch up to where I can understand what you guys are talking about.

Thanks,

dick

CJ, can you give a brief rundown on your latest recipe (mix ratios of ingredients) as well as your process again?

I just sent you an email about making my own "DSE" :)

I've been busy and travelling a lot lately, but I'm planning to get started bombing the fuel system on my '98 finally. I have to work outside, but luckily the weather has been warm.

Here's a site I've been reading lately:
http://www.hydrogenappliances.com/bioD.html

Supposedly their filters last a very long time and are quite affordable, and I'm looking at their beads as an easy way to remove moisture. But the cost of the beads and the process of recharging them once they're saturated with water has kept me from buying them. You have to heat them for awhile in an old oven outside, to control heating and not smoke up the house. But no way I can do that (no space, no place).

veg oil and fuel

Hello Dick

There are no dumb questions.

wvo = waste vegatable oil

svo= straight vegatable oil

nvo = new vegatable oil

The list goes on

First of all making the fuel what that means is getting the WVO to a state of clean (filtering it) this is used veg oil I have, this oil I got a weekago is the first time I have used new oil in making a fuel. the only way for the new oil to be made in to a fuel I would use is to be treated just like waste oil is.

The fuel I use is not sold anywhere, there is no law that says you cant make your own fuel. you just cant sell it.

New oil can be bought in bulk from big vegoil co. farm co-ops such as cargil/adm, big farms but you have to buy in railcar or truck tanker amounts.

My oil comes from places that I deal with and pick up there oil they give it to me and I take it from them. I do not just take it from places I ask them if its ok and supply them with drums to put it in never take some thing with out asking for it first.

The post is a good read, take some time to get up to speed ,its ok to ask as many questions as you need.

Fuel

Hello Vaughn

the process has not really changed much

Oil is settled in a storage tank summer time for a week/winter time for up to 3weeks . the cold makes it harder to settle out.

pumped from storage tank to heating drum thru a filter 600 micron, and thru a drum filter 200 mircon then the drum is heated to 250 degs for 12 to 24 hrs depending on the oil and how much water is in the oil.

then oil is cooled and pumped to a mixing/filtering unit this is when it filters to 5 micron this is all done in 40 gallon batches. the oil mixed with the 4 additives to thin it down . Kero/Jet A at 10%/ Gasoline at 5%/ Power Service 32 oz / the pink stuff at 6 oz. Then its fltered for 12 hrs before I will think about using it I have filtered it for over 24 hrs. but 12 is what I like.

I have thought about the beads also but the time it takes is a little to much for me. The filters look cool ,would like to see one work first before buying one.

fuel update

all three trucks are running great 04/05 and the 01 of my friends

we went and picked up 120 gallons of used oil today and its all in the storage tank, I have 35 gallons of fuel made,45 gallons of fuel mixing and 100 gallons of oil cleaned and ready to filter and to make in to fuel.

looking at another storage tank just for clean oil filtered to 5 micron and waiting to be made in to fuel thinking a supply of oil for the winter that way most of the heating can be done in the summer time it will take around 750 gallons of oil for the winter.

the oil is easy to get here I have found 6 more supplys of oil and the have around 300 gallons each this is about 2 months of oil for them.

with diesel prices running 3. 099 here and it lookes like its not done going up for the year i think a small investment in storage tanks sounds good.

I did change the oil in my 04 and sent it off so should be getting some new info on the oil this week or maybe next week. the oil in the 05 because of the way the injection works soots the oil really bad and I am thinking about a bypass oil filter on it, this will help get the soot out of the oil. I might just do both of them.
