Differential Oil Change Intervals.

looks like this 4. 00 a gallon fuel might just make some people start thinking maybe it will work on some thing different.

thanks for reading.

Crazy ain't it. I see this increased interest happening at "other" diesel websites also. Kinda sad, 'cause the oil is already kinda hard to find in the NW, at least in the PDX metro area. But like you say, now that dino's $4+/gal, some "naysayers" aren't as much "nay" anymore ;)

changes in fuel blend

Hello to All

I have been trying some changes in the additives for this fuel what I have found is that there are better products out there that will help this blend and will make the cost per gallon go down a little.

THE PRODUCTS

1) Cetane Boost Additive (2-ethyl hexyl nitrate)

2) TDR-S Additive

These are from Amalgamated Inc.

The person I talked to name is Randy Walker.

Randy Walker (rwalker@amalgamatedinc.com)

phone number 260-489-2549

the cetane additive really helps in cold weather starting of the truck and the overall performance is better

the tdr-s additive is replacing the powerservice in the blend the amount will be reduced form 32 oz to 14 oz per 40 gallons of oil. This will save around 1. 00 per batch

One more thing

The 5 gallon pails these products come in are shipped with a screw in spout

the first time I tried using it leaked and the smell of the chemical is strong.

I found a hand pump and a container that works great with these products

it makes mixing these additives faster and the smell is contained in the pail.

this is the website that I got the pump from Bascousa.com - BASCO Ezi-actionâ„¢ Drum and Pail Pumps

thanks for reading

CJ,

Pat from up north here, we spoke on the phone a few times... ... was wondering if you are still working on the seed press setup?

Will be putting 100 acres of Safflower in the ground sometime next week. Hope to use the production as seedstock for my own fuel, so I am VERY interested in how things are going with the press.

Pat

Seeds

hello pat

yes i am still working on the seed expeller.

its hard to get it up and running the seeds are plugging the the expeller and then you have to take it apart and start all over again.

when you go to by one of these things spend a little more money and get a good one there are some great expellers out there and there are some really bad ones.

if you get to billings look me up i take you out there and show you the set up.

how much seed are you planing to get out of the 100 acres.

talk to you later

Am hoping for 500#'s/acre. It is HORRIBLY dry up here and I am concerned about my weed control not working due to dry conditions.

So, 100Acres @ 500#s/acre = 50,000#'s of Safflower in the "dirt" (uncleaned)

As far as the meal, unless we can find someone who is willing to pay a decent price for it (most folks wont try anything "new" around here) we are looking at the cost of having it pelletted and then either we will spread it or "seed" it bakc into the ground to add organic matter.

Am really hoping it is something that can change how we are farming, $4. 00 diesel simply will not cut it, even with $10. 00 wheat... ... ... ... Phosphorous Fertilizer went from $440 to $1000/ton since last August... ... . Glyphosate (Roundup) went from $18 to 53/gallon since last spring... ...

Should be happy about high prices but I have a really "worried" feeling in my stomach about things this spring.

oil and feed

Hello Pat

The safflower would make great cattle feed the Charters down here might buy it I will ask them next time I see them. you will have some it sounds like.

Hello to All

I was making fuel this weekend and was making sure it was all mixed up it was after I added the gasoline and the additives it started to foam and there was a look to the oil like the air was coming out of the oil. this was with the new chemicals that I have started using after about 30 min it all was gone and the fuel was a lot thiner and back to normal.

I mixed up another batch using the old blend and it did not foam up its just when I use the new additives.

Have any of you seen this happen I would like to have the fuel tested but at this time the money just is not there to do this. the trucks are running better with the new fuel so I am not worred about what is going on with it.

I will keep you posted on what it is doing.

This is an awesome thread!

Thanks to everyone for your contributions and amazing knowledge and insight.

Making this a sticky.

Thank you

hello to all

I would also like to thank all those that read this post and to those that have helped myself and others with this project.

with out the support of TDR and others this info would not be here and we would all be trying to find out what need to be done on are own.

The new news about this is I have found a supply of new oil and I will be getting the info on this in the next month. I have no clue what it will take to get this oil but I will be posting on this as I get the info. This will be a great way for all of us to get the oil we need to make fuel.

I just hope there is a lot of people out there looking for new oil and the price is right on it.

Thanks again

CJ, I thought I had the information but how much cetane additive are you using per 40 gallons?

Vaughn

Hello Vaughn

I have been adding 8 oz in 40 gallons of oil

14 oz of tdr-s to replace the power service.

The cetane in diesel fuel need to be added at 1 to 333 to raise it one point

one oz per 2. 6 gallons of diesel fuel raises it one point

the tds-s has this in it also it raises it 5 or 6 points also

hope this helps

I just out the MSU Northern in Havre Mt tests fuel and additives they just started doing this last month . :)

fuel and expeller

Hello to All

Will this was very hard to take for the first time diesel price in Billings was 4. 069#@$%!

This will hurt us all any of you that eat, buy things or just want to go for a little drive and yes this hurts me also I dont buy fuel in the amounts that the rest of you do but I have to have it some times and I like to buy stuff and eat.

I have been working on the centrifuge and its coming along good also I have been working on the expeller for crushing oil seeds and making seed cake and oil. with the help of Daniel McAmoil he looked at some video I sent him he told me a few things to try and he hit it right on the nail head. with some gearing changes and a few other changes we will be up and running. Thanks again Daniel.

here is a link to his web site this is great reading and it works.

Bio-Diesel: Farm Grown Profit

The trucks are working great and running just fine the new fuel blend is working just fine.

I hope all of you are having good luck with the fuel.

I am sure we are headed for the 5. 00 per gallon mark this year some time #@$%!#@$%!

just my . 50 cents worth price went up sorry. :-laf

Has anyone tried using E85 instead of RUG? When I stopped at the truck stop to top off my tank E85 was 2. 79, rug was 3. 59, and diesel was 4. 20. I guess I'm going to have to use more than 10gal of blended fuel per tank.

Hello

yes on the e85

A former member Mark S was using IPA then switched to E 85

the blend he is using

5 gal RUG

3 gal E85

and the other stuff

he says its a little light but it works for him

I am making a batch of fuel tonight, have e85 10 gallons so think I will make up a batch tonight and try it out , hoping to use it this summer when the weather was warmer but its time with fuel prices going up . anyone have e100?

This will take a few days to do.

should know by friday

ONE THING ON E85,THE OCTANE 105 RUG IS 87

might need a lot of cetane to offset this

and this will be by guessing ?

e-85

Hello to All

looking at the numbers , thinking that 7 gallons of e-85 would be 5. 95 gallons of e-100 + 1. 05 gallons of RUG in forty gallons oil veg oil this would be close to 15% e-100

I read some time ago that you need 15 % to mix right with vegoil. but with gasoline it might not be a problem

HUMMMMMMM looks like moonshine might be next :-laf:-laf:-laf

CJ: I just read Mr. McAmoil's paper that is posted to his web-site. It was very interesting and informative. There was one thing that cought my interest quickly. He mentioned the salt content in WVO and the damage it can do to the engine. What are your thoughts on this? Is there a way you can test the amount of salt in your fuel? And if your fuel has salt is there any way to get it out? His story is pretty alarming.

Thanks again for your efforts on the forum and the time you spend putting out the information.

Bill

fuel

Hello Bill

Yes I to thought about the salt in the oil but then I thought when would it get in the oil.

You don't salt the foods before you fry them you do it after they cook. You will get a ton of flour in fried chicken and spices could get salt also here

sure there is salt in the oil from when they clean up the fryers but you would have to burn the bottom sluge to get the salt/ pepper/ spices/ msg all the chemicals they put on the food.

if you settle the oil and only use the good stuff you should be fine most of the spices I see from the oil I get is on the bottom of the pails and I just use good filtering and the stuff is not a problem

I am sure he did see this happen I would like to here what process they used to filter the oil if any.

Hope this helps
