I wasn't gonna say anything but now I feel I must. This thread is somewhat misleading especially for newbies. What we are really talking about here are Torque Converters (TC). The original post said "transmission. " Even Bill K. or Stefan themselves will tell you that unless you are running over 325rwhp you most likely (disclaimer - depending on how you drive or what you tow) will not need to do anything to the 47RE transmission. But you will need a TC and a valve body. If you go over 325hp then yes, you should invest another $1000 to beef up the transmission itself.

ok, i guess it's time to tell why i am choosing DTT... ... ... ...

Since I got the Job at Diesel Innovations I have had my eyes opened to Sun Coast. This is the transmission that Nowel (HVAC) is running now also( i don't think that's a secret anymore), and am impressed by it. It was also taken into consideration when I choose what transmission I would get. Each of the companies has their good, and negative points.

For a LONG time there was no ATS to choose from, then came ATS, and a choice of who to pick. When in Munice,Matt(Holeshotholeset) and I talked to Clint Cannon and listened, and looked at that converter that they had set up there. We asked questions for about 45 minutes of his time. I also got a ride with Eric McBride, and was impressed. It shifted a lot smoother then the DTT rides I had been in, but it was lacking the firm shifting under heavy accelerating that the DTT did have. I realize that all this can be changed up with minor modifications to the VB, and am not worried about it. After Muncie, I was still leaning towards DTT.

It was not until ATS sent a new(different) VB to JConley that I had truly considered an ATS over the DTT. The main reason being the Lockup. Lockup is a great thing. However, after doing much researching, and reading, I found that while it is fun to have, I think it is something that does lead to failure. Now granted that nothing lasts forever, and warranties are offered with each vendors products, I realize that parts will have to be bought more then likely after time.

Another thing that attracts me to DTT is the Line pressure issue. I know this is as simple as turning a screw, DTT specializes in this area, and always has. ATS has claimed that they use higher line pressure, admitting that it's not as that much higher then stock. Does it work? Obviously it does as they are having success with it.

Something that is equal attractions on both sides is the people. I love Bill, and his "tell it like it is" mouth, and Stefan, and the whole DTT crew. The ATS crew is very nice, and polite also, Don is one funny guy. Can't say enough good things that I have seen from both. Everybody can say what they wish, but stories are just that, and enough have been said about both sides.

The final thing that pulls me to DTT is the installer of my choice James Northum. I decided WAY back, almost a year now, that I wanted him to do my transmission work, whatever brand it was going to be. His professional skills I think are truly first rate, and can tell that he is the right man for MY transmission. After talking to him, and asking him questions about what I wanted to do, and where I would like my truck to be, I was ready to choose DTT.

I rag on my truck as it is, and would only be satisfied with a full make over on the transmission. I do plan to have a 14 or 13 second truck one day, and realize that I must pay to get there. I have never planned on being "sponsored" or anything like that, and do not expect it, nor do I wish it. I want to pay just like the next guy, which is only fair. If I wanted to, I could have a Sun Coast put in the truck tommorw at the shop, but I want DTT.

This post is made to maybe explain somethings, and made so that all can know why I am choosing DTT. I am not a "cheerleader" and have never entered the "transmission wars", and didn't want to, which might be the reason some have never known my choice.

I wish the best of luck to Don & Clint of ATS, and Sun Coast, and want them to have TONS of success.

I spent my money on DTT if that matters to anyone. Bill has been very helpfull with all questions I have had. In fact I may call him tommorow... ... ...

Opinions are like arm pits, everyone has 2. The best advice is to do your own research and make your own decision. Its very obvious that you can not get a yes or no answer from here when it comes to trannies.

The line pressure thread was like the twin turbo drive pressure thread.

Stake,

Your exactly right, everybody needs to do their own research. However i know some will be intrested in my story.

I have to chuckle and then get real irritated when I read posts from company representatives on an issue when nobody has even talked down their product. If their product is so supperior to everyone elses then why do the company representatives have to keep comeing on here and trying to talk everyone into buying their product.

To you guys (useing anyones product) that spout off saying that this or that transmission or product for that matter is the best, I have a question to you. It would be good to ask these questions to vendors also.

1. Have you used everyones product?

2. Have you used everyones product after you tried it the first time? Innovations are being developed at a very fast pace in all areas and what one vendor had at one time was trash and has been redesigned is probably better than anything on the market today.

Stakeman you are correct again

Like he said we all have two arm pits; however some smell:rolleyes: Couldn't't let that one pass-----

The reason I went with DTT was not for lock-up, but the efficient fluid coupling. If you tow heavy with low to moderate power then lock-up cannot be used most of the time anyway. I'm talking up hill and high power situations. There were quite a number of people posting about the high heat and high pressures of the DTT trannys; come to find out it is plain bull. All are about the same.

As a matter fact yesterday, my(Bob my truck is no longer a virgin)

(Strick9 made me do it:rolleyes: ) pressure was considerable below those posted previously by others. And it did not slip. It just took off like a rocket (well like a small rocket). Oh, and Chris is the only other person who has driven my truck... ...

Andrew has made a wise choice. The installer does make a difference. And my advise to anyone, make certain that you get it in writing before the work begins; if you don't, you could be very sorry. The vendors (DTT,BD,ATS -----) do not have a lot of control of what the installers charge. I cannot recommend anyone going to Kerrville TX; for any reason.

I agree the installer makes a BIG difference. That is why it would be nice if the installer had the freedom to install whatever the customer wanted.

When I see DTT Installers talking about how they will only install DTT parts, I wonder if that is a business decision, or because they dont have a choice.

So how many ATS full transmission's w/TC have you seen with over 100k on them?

I dont doubt there may be a few by now, but a few is not good enough to suit me when I am investing 4 grand give or take. Matter of fact I have not heard of any of the TC's failing as yet..... But I have heard of more than one of the transmission's giving up the ghost... ... ATS's products may well prove to be the best thing since canned beer..... I dont know. But perhaps by the time I get ready to buy one we will know for sure if they stand up to the test of time... ...

I hope you never sit on a jury. Seems you are saying they (ATS) are guilty and have to prove their innocence. Doesn't that seem backward? BTW, I am working on that 100,000 mile test for ya.

The fact alone that you are an authorized transmission shop for DTT says a LOT about the quality of your work. If I or anyone else comes to your shop to try and get an ATS transmission will you do the install? Can ATS refer customers to you? From what I have seen, once you become an authorized DTT shop, you are forbidden from installing anything from ATS regardless of what the customer wants.

So much for the independant shop...

Well, we are an independent PERFORMANCE shop. We CHOOSE to sell and install only DTT stuff. If someone asks to have ATS stuff installed, we will politely decline, stating that we will only use and install DTT stuff. If the customer wants ATS stuff, he should go to an ATS installer. Hopefully, they have been trained, as we have, by the builder of the parts being used on how to properly install and set them up.

ok here goes i know for fact that dtt will not let anyone install their transmission's or at least if they have installed an ats transmission before. the reason i know this is b/c i talked to bill and told him i wanted the dtt and said my transmission guy was super and also that my transmission guy was pushing me towards the ats and after hearing this bill said that he did not want this guy to install the dtt transmission for me. i want my guy to install this transmission for me b/c i trust him and he would put in a dtt transmission in for me with better results. plus he is not 450 miles away from my house like the recommended one from dtt. needless to say i am not happy. i guess i will go the ats way or goerend. in all fairness bill said he doesn't want to loose some of his secrets in the way he sets his transmission's up. besides i think now the prices for ats and dtt are way to high. i want to know how much profit are they making off of a single tc. $1300:--) why so much? all i have to say is that a computer used to cost $2000 and now they can be found for $300. these tc prices must come down. unless warranted. maybe i will go to china and start to mass produce these awsome tc's anyone in for a business venture i have the contacts email me at -- email address removed -- :D maybe i can cash in on this growing business.

I was just sitting here thinking about how rediculious these transmission threads become and started to think about other things we could argue over like... ... . what brand of underware you use.

Hanes or fruit of the loom or store brand, I hope I covered the others by saying store brand as I would hate to leave someone out.

Then the big arguement of what is best, breifs, boxers, thongs :D , or gasp, none. Then we would have to get into a discussion of how often to change them or does turning them inside out work. Do you use bleach (just for whiten purposes of couse ;) )???? Oh my god!!! I forgot about long johns and useing them in the summer... ... ... ... ... .

I'am getting a headache I think I'll go lay down for awhile.
