Competition Diesels in december dyno videos

Competition lets hear some dyno numbers

I think the contest should be between two nearly identical trucks, with practical mods. I talking about injectors and a box... No N20, no propane. Just good old fashioned diesel. What do you guys think? Just like with any competition, we need bopundaries of some sort here. Just a thought...

All I got is good ol #2 ..... no nitrous yet. Although its "on the list" of things to do this winter.

will you be coming down to pahrump with lawerence? i think it would be tough for me to beat diesel dynamics since you have

all the cool parts. i would like to beat hvacs #'s of 646. i think then maybe we can stop bad mouthing the poor little ol eth's. :D

like keith said it's a run what ya brung deal. no whining!!! they will have a p-pump and maybe some nos, i will have a stock eth vp-44, nos, and lpg.

now i should have my new stock headgasket in by monday, and it wil be blown on sat, not bad for a week's work.

Just wondering, have you blown any yet? Mainly when ya put the propane to it? Like I said just curious.

No doubt about that, Keith! :D What's Mark's truck putting out at the wheels now? Mid 5's?

Marks truck make 510 last week with the "insane in the membrane" injectors Lawrence threw it in to take to the drag strip. Pity we didn't get there. With regular Super Mentals it right about 500 even.

The Prototype VP44 will be going on it soon though, so more is in the works. :D I don't know if it will be in by the event though.

Yeah Jim, I'll be there and so will Lawrence, Mark, Luis, et al. This is our back yard so we have to make a show right?

We've had everyone covered on #2 only for a long time, but the concensus is the biggest number wins, regardless of how you get there. I think Lawrence was putting a JATO rocket in the bed last week... . oops, that's not supposed to be let out. ;)

Anyway, we'll be out there to have some fun and see how the dyno printout falls.

i've blown 2 headgaskets on my truck, the last one was last friday it went with just #2. i was testing and tuning when it went:eek: it blew straight out the front of #1 last time it went striaght out the back of #6. if it goes this weekend i will be putting in a different head gasket, and maybe studding it.

keith

i'm glad the whole gang will be down there this should be fun. is this the 1st event in which you guys have competed?what are you guys hoping to hit with lawerences truck?

jim

This could be settled on the dragstrip if someone would make a shifter with a positive stop on it and didn't feel like a broomstick in a bucket of crisco :D lol. Plus the driver plays a VERY BIG part of racing a 5-speed. The Smoke pedal should remain on the floor during the whole pass. Letting off to shift is no excuse :D

I gotta admit though... my race/street car is an auto

We can't use my truck for the test because its a SLUG

Well,l this is the first event we have brought Lawrences' truck to. We brought Joe D's truck to the Ford event in March where it went 614hp or something. Lawrence has had a big part in getting it over the 540hp level. They've really come a long way.

The goal for Lawrences truck is censored at this time. :D

Racing from 40+ mph what's the point. I think you guys might be on to something, you should ask nhra if they will make a class that gives you a rolling start. Once we do that maybe we should race in reverse. ;)

If you want to race then race, if not don't bother. You know that we will never settle this so we might as well have fun. :D :D

I don't have a problem with sticks, I just like to get there first. :p Having an auto has it's perks like being in the winner circle. :D :D

Sorry Diesel Freak I just couldn't help myself. ;)

Hey Stefan,

You guys have lock-up capabilities in 2nd and drive, right? Why can't you lock up the TC when you're on the dyno? It maybe can't be done, but why couldn't it? I'd be a lot closer if ya did that.

Corey,

Our TC's can be locked-up on a dyno, you just need to know how to do it. I'm sure lots of people have the same question but figured that it can't be done. Lawrence from DD does it all the time. I think some people have the impression that we have a weak lock-up system because we don't premote it. When in fact we have a very strong lock-up system. Ask Chris Srickland about it. :D We can guarantee longer life without always using lock-up.

Boooooooooo

Come on, give the manuals a break... ... . try them at forty. :D

Or better yet!!!!!!!!!

Try Jim in the 60 foot launch... ... he'll eat you up. :p

Peter

Well then if that's the case Stephan, I say go for it. It the manual is locked up, and the auto is locked up, it seems to me that whoever has the lower gear ratio will have more power. It has to work that way if both are the same truck with the same HP. Right? So if an auto in lock-up has a 1 to 1 ratio and a 5 speed is at a 1 to 1 ratio they should put down the same power. Maybe the auto would be a hp less because it has to move some fluid, but other than that they should be the same. At least the way I understand it.

Corey

P. S. Stefan, where's your nearest installer to MN? How about a test truck? I called last week, but you were out, I usually can't find the time to call during the day so it's easier to ask on here. Thanks.

Yes if you know how to do it. It can be done without a lockup switch. Its just a matter of how you apply the throttle.

Yes you can lock it up with a switch, or by letting it lock up before ya apply the fuel. It takes some practice. Its more fun to dyno without lockup, then if ya race and ya lock up you get 5 to 10% more hp to edge out the compitition ;) Thats my viewpoint.

So its possible to lock it up and hammer down from about 1K for one mean torque number??? Its going to be hard to throw down a killer torque number if you can't be WOT by 1800 or sooner IMHO.

Having fun was the reason for this thread. I love poking fun at the auto guys... . especially John. :p :D

I have one of those whimpy 180 pumps in my 5 speed truck, we here in california get it no matter if it is an auto or properly shifted 5 speed. I have a 600 dollar South Bend clutch ( much cheeper than any auto upgrade that will hold any reasonable HP)in my truck that will hold mucho power. I have many many parts in the garage and between me and Adam we can produce any HP you desire 300-400-500-600-700? you make the call and we will see. I am in it for the fun that is the only reason I am posting so lets keep it that way or I am out.
