Anybody with stacks, I have some questions fer ya'.

What I'm tryin' to find out is if there is a "Y" pipe available in 4", also chrome "elbows". If their available who has them? Also what size stacks are the majority of you using,4" or 5"?

As always thanks for the help,

Rob

Stacks

Go to a local big rig truck parts place. They will have the "tee" you are looking for in an asortment of sizes. I don't know about the chrome "90's" you are wanting but I bet they will have them too. I ran 4" pipe until I reached the chrome stacks and then went up to a 5" with mitered ends. It has a really deep mellow sound.

LWillams,

You wouldn't have any pics of your stacks, would you? Particularly, from in the bed looking down to where they go through the floor.

Or does anybody else have pics of their setup?

Thanks again, ROb

Gizmo,

You 'da man! Thats what I'm talkin' about! I was going about it the wrong way,I was gonna "Y" it underneath, then bring it up through the floor,Thanks man ,you've shown me the light! See the problem is that I have a dump bed, so the 1 pipe goin' through the bed will be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, easier plus now I just need to buy one of the ball n socket couplers.

Thanks again,

RobOo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. , Now I gotta order the parts,oh man, I can't wait ta gitem!!

Yes, I just finished installing them last weekend and I still have the film in the camera. Haven't had it developed yet. I will post them soon. Here is what I did. I got a used 4" hydraulic cylinder barrell and cut the end off and then cut 1/3 of it off. This gave me 2 pieces of thin wall 4" pipe. One about 16 inches long and the other about 8 inches. I cut and welded them together where the long one had the short one welded on it at an angle. Like a "cutout" that you can by from any parts house. I also fabricated and installed butterflies in both chambers of this cutout and put a linkage that operated both at the same time. When one is opened the other one is closed. This is cable operated from inside the cab. I also removed the cat in the exhaust pipe and installed the test pipe from DC. I cut a section out of this test pipe and installed my homemade cutout. This gives me the option to switch back and forth from the stock muffler and tailpipe to the stacks. From the cutout, on the stack side, I used a piece of 4" flexable exhaust pipe that comes up through the exact center of the bed just behind the front bed support beam. This was a little further back than what I wanted so I took a 4" elbow and cut it in half, rotated one half of it 180 degrees and welded it back together. This gave me a offset that brought the stack assembly forward to the front of the bed. Then I used elbows and stock pieces of 4" exhaust pipe to assemble the "tee" and "90's" until I had the stacks the width and height I wanted. The last thing was a couple of 4" to 5" adapters and then the 5" stacks on top. The tips of the chrome stacks are about 3" above the top of the cab. I like having the option of shutting off the stacks because sometimes I get tired of the noise and like to listen to the radio, and it is safer in town. But when the time and place is right, pulling a load, I like to rattle the windows when I pass by. I really enjoy it. I'll post pictures when I get them developed.

Or,, You can dual them out outside the pickup bed. It reduces rear-ward visibility out of the side mirrors, but keeps the bed clear and clean for any type of junk that gets put back there.

Or you can custom make a 3" Y like I had out local mufler shop do for me.

Stacks

Hi all, I have a stack question for anyone with such a setup. I am considering stacks some day but am concerned about rain getting down in there and then starting the thing up and having soot rain down all over the truck. I have read something about this in the past here on the TDR. I think I like the looks of the straight slant cut stacks the best. Rain would go right in a setup like that. How do the big rigs get around this? I see many of them with slant cut stacks and nothing on top. Any ideas out there? One more question. How loud are these things with 5" stacks and a minimal to no muffler? Thanks in advance for any comments.

oasis-3,

Yea, I can't wait 'till I get 'em on the truck,I'm sure I'll dig it!:D

cumminspower,

I'm just gonna throw a couple of coffee can on top, that'll keep the water out. :)

Rob

CumminsPower98, yep, it's true about the soot shower. I get it everytime it rains with my single stack. Mine is the 'Bull Hauler' style, or something to that effect. Here's a pic. of the stack and the cut on the tip... #ad

What I need is a large MIL flapper, but I don't know if they make one that will fit this style.

RAMTHIS1, it's ONLY one inch, LOL :D

Try drilling a few small holes in the lowest point of the exhaust to let the water out.

Rob, Try Berube's www.berubes.com . They are a big rig supply company. They have stacks that are 6" or 7" that reduce to 5" at the bottom if you want some beefy stacks. Also they have 5" stacks, a variety of Y-pipes,reducers, and clamps. Very nice people to deal with. I was thinking about stacks, but I have a cap and stacks outside the bed on a 2500 would look kind of tacky. I did get a 24" long 7" reduced to 5" chrome slash cut top stack that I'm going to use as a tailpipe. Should look cool. -Glen

I have installed 5" stacks on both my trucks. Straight slant cut stacks on the '93 and turned out stacks on the '97. I had the problem with black soot on the bed after a rain with the '93 but not with the '97 with the turned out stacks (the '97 is black though;) )

Do any of you guys with stack pull 5th wheels or tow behind camp trailers? I am dying to set my truck up with a set of stacks, but I've hesitated, thinking I'll end up with the front of my 5th wheel all black.
