I have been talking w/Marco on the VP44 thread about this...
It seems that the VP44 is capable of supplying a lot more fuel than we can burn. The trick is to have the proper injectors. You need HUGE injectors to be able to inject fuel fast enough. To spite common belief there are ways of getting a lot more fuel than just hogging out the holes on a factory set of injectors.
there is a point at which the retraction factor of the injector is too low to support the amout of fuel that the tip is able to flow. This factor has to do with the way the seat is cut. It must be manufactured to the factor necessary and cannot be cut because the seat must be case hardened. You can also custom cut the needles and change springs to affect the injection quality, quantity, and characteristics further.
At some point the injection timing of the ECM is going to be mismatched with the injectors so grossly that it will be detrimental to performace. The limit then becomes the program of the ECM not the injector and pump.
The boxes we add very slightly affect timing and can greatly affect duration of injection(making it longer). At some point the need to retard timing at Idle will exist and timing at higher RPM will need to be advanced more than our boxes can.
The stock ECM plateu IS coming. The larger injectors are artificially advancing timing and injecting tons of fuel fast. I forsee the point that stock duration of timing may be too long for opimum performance.
Sorry to drop off on such a long theoretical tangent.

Mark
