Has anyone had any luck in getting the dually fender problem fixed? I know that some others had this problem as well especially on warm days. The problem is that the top edge of the fender is loose and rubs the paint on the box metal causing it to scuff. It is very noticeable on dark colors, like black. The local DC rep says he has never heard of the problem. They are talking about gluing my fender edges to the body but I really don't want to go that route.

The problem lies I believe in the clamping plates that clamp the fender lip to the side of the box. The plates are pretty flimsy in my opinion and according to DC the part number has not changed.

Casey,

Mine does it as well, but it isn't very noticable on the light colored paint. I did show it to the service manager at my dealers and he had not seen it before. If someone has a light colored truck, they might not notice it unless it was called to their attention. When I first noticed it, I thought it was thin paint in that area.

Honest, Casey- consider some black fender welt, just like what we use on the old cars. Loosen the fender extension, slip the welting in, tighten just enough to pinch slightly and you're done.

It will cover the rub marks, and on your black truck it will either be invisible or look custom!

Either way, you're better off and no glue.

I have had the same problem with my 03 black dually. It really upsets me that DC hasn't addressed this rubbing problem. I showed this to my dealer and as everyone else has stated dealers have never seen this before. Putting the fender felt might be the answer. I wonder if drilling more holes and placing bolts in the fender would solve the problem. If anyone solves the fender rub problem please post. Jim

Help, Part number needed

Well it seems that DC quietly fixed the problem (even though they claimed they knew nothing about it) with a change in the production year. No big deal except that I had to find out for myself. A friend with a new dually provided the opportunity to see if they had fixed the problem. His fender didn't move when I pushed on it and on close inspection DC now installs a thin strip of two sided tape on the inside lip of the fender to glue it to the side of the box. The tape is black, about 3/4 inch wide and maybe 3/16 inch thick.

I have asked them to install new support brackets too. Even if I have to pay for it. However they can't find the number for them. There are two per side, one in front of the wheel opening and one to the rear.

If anyone can find the part number, I would appreciate it. The dealer is totally lost on this one.

Fender Rubbing

My black sport, built 4/03 has the double sided tape. No rubbing, so far. My left fender is almost perfect fit wise, but the left one has a gap where you can see the tape. But, they are both sturdy.

The truck sits outside, hope I won't have a problem with this in the future. Its 85 here, the fenders are staying put as far as I can tell.
