Dually tailgate brakelight conversion

I think i found my next mod. i did a quick search, but i couldn't find anything. i really like the tailgate brakelight bar on the dually's. has anyone tried this? i think it will be really easy, just running the wire through the tailgat could be tricky, but i havn't really looked at it yet. i will keep you posted on how it goes.

Thanks Tom, the dealer here couldn't find any part number. do you think the wiring harness is neccesary? i looked at the tailgate, the inside pnl comes off and there is a whole at the bottom for the wires. i am not sure how it mounts, but i am hoping it is just a couple of holes to drill and then just a couple of self tapping screws.

I think so, because without that harness, I bet you have to "hack & slash" into the factory harness, etc



This SHOULD be a plug and play mod, but I do not know for sure

I decided to just get them from him since he treated me so good when i bought my truck from him. But you would be surprised how slow the postal service is going from St. Louis to Little Rock.

Hercules130, I'll sell ya an 03 tailgate light assy. w/ the wire pigtail for 50. 00 + shipping. I drove it home from dlr. and removed it.

I would like to find the plastic off the tailgate of a 2nd gen. dually.

i dont mind, I heck I might order one for me to play with and see how it installs, I am a little cautious to drill/tap into my factory tailgate

Its funny, mopar made a nice little "kit" for the 2nd gens, but they didn't for the 3rd gens... HECK with them! we will make our own

As it comes, it is a tail light or running light bar, NOT a brakelight bar, at least on my '03... Of course if you wire it to the brakelights, that could change. I suppose you could even put some of the bulbs on each circuit, or perhaps rewire to dual filament bulbs... . but the way it comes stock, it is running lights.



The one time I have had mine into the dealer, the service writer, on giving it back to me said that brakelight was out, and they could troubleshoot it for me, but if it was burnt out bulbs, it would be on me... I showed him it was running lights only, and he tucked his tail and went back in the office... Oo.

Thats to bad, but i will still put it on. if i get the factory wiring harness i doubt i will try to rewire to the brake light. i may once i take a closer look.

Would you have the part number and price for the dually tailgate? My wife backed into the gooseneck coupler on our horse trailer(forgot to put the tailgate down) :{ . I was thinking about adding the dually light bar to my SWR tailgate now it might be just as easy to replace it with the dually tailgate. Maybe someone out there has a dark green dually tailgate for sale?

I'm thinking your tailgate looks the same, but opposite of my buddies Ford ... ... ..... his wife unhooked, drove away and forgot to lower the tailgate :-laf



At least she unloaded the horses first Oo.
