I pull a 30ft 5er and am somewhat heavy footed and I got about 30k out of the Goodyears and 35k out of the Coopers, but the tread on these Firestones is much much deeper and the ride and the traction is better than either of the other brands and with the Coopers I could never stop the tires from breaking loose, heck on the freeway after a rain and just a wet residue between lanes I could break the tires loose changing lanes if I pushed the pedal down.
The tires were 838 and installation was 85 and plus tax
I expect no less than the 30-35k miles from these since I got that from the others although with the much deeper tread I am optimistic that I will break 40-45k with this set.
P. S. my buddy got the Transforce HT (highway tread) and they dont have as deep of tread and he only got 30k out of them

I put the Transforce AT's on mine. They have about 40k on them and will go another 10k if I don't run into any really bad weather. My GY's went 35k till the sidewalls all fell apart. The Generals that followed made it 25k miles. I paid more for my Transforce ($1060 for six) but that was two years ago right when they just came out.

I must say, I was living in Denver, CO and these tires did great in the snow even when empty. I'll probably do another set when these are gone.

Those or the bridgestone duravis were going to be my tire choice... . BUT since my generals have 53000 on them and will probably make it to 60-63000... i found a set of slightly used takeoff's from a new dually for 350 bucks... . general's aint the greatest... . but they sure are cheap. Mine have their factory balance. . i have rotated them every 10k and they are worn evenly.

If it was up to me i would like Michelin XPS ribs in a 255/80/17. . oh well...

your truck must never see much 5er pulling does it? my generals from the factory got 39k on the steer, and im still runnin em on the back, but they are as bald as slicks just about... . just a hair under 42k on the truck right now

My Generals were at the tread wear indicators at 25k and then they started shedding chucks of rubber from the tread. I have been very happy with my Firestones.

Griz, one of the main reasons I went with the Firestones was I was living in Denver. That first winter we had a 36" snowfall and I had no problems getting around - even in the deep stuff. Dually's are notoriously bad in the snow, but no problems (even empty) with these. The michelins available at the time had a more highway tread design and I was worried they'd pack too easily with mud and snow. The LTX A/T's look much better.

Here in south GA, I don't see much snow (heh, heh). But they still work very well in the mud (I do see a lot of that!)

Have around 110k HARD miles on my Michelin LTX/ MS's, mostly pulling heavy in all types of weather. Now that I gave up the transport deal... for the time being... I'm debating on another set , or go something cheaper.

Juan, my Generals are long past the 25K threshold. I believe they will make it to 40K. No chunks of rubber so far.

I'm sure that your Firestone's are perfectly good, however I'm hesitant to use them after all the bad publicity a few years back. I feel the same way about Uniroyal's.

How are things in Georgia? Do you miss the Rocky Mountains?

Griz,

It was 16° this morning on the way to work. I'm not sure if I'm not still in the Rockies!

My Generals were aftermarket, not OEM, so maybe there was a difference. Anyway, they just didn't last. I ran those 25k miles in about 12 months, so it shouldn't have been UV exposure. They just didn't last.

Anyway, the Michelins are good tires, but I was a little shell shock paying $1600 for six if they were only going to last a year or two. They probably would have been fine. Anyway, I'll probably do the Firestone thing again, $900 for six and they were made in the US of A.

Say "hi" to Rachie for me!

So you never rotated them? I would say close to half of my miles have been pulling over 15000 lbs...

ive rotated in the past and got WORSE treadlife by doing so... . ya, i kno, it makes zero sense. the longest life ive gotten out of my tires is not rotating them, just keeping them aired up good. and im usually pulling between 10k-20k

I gotta say I am still impressed with these tire, Today driving around in the rain and put my foot into it at nearly every stop light and I can actually take off and stay in my lane without breaking the dually's loose. If this keeps up and I get some decent mileage out of them I might just become a fan of Firestones
