Is anyone running 305/70/17's or 315/70/17's on a dually? I wana make my 05 have the dually rear, and a super single front. 35's all around. Wonder how big of a spacer I would need in the rear so the duals dont rub? Pics would help alot. Also are factory dually wheels narrower than SRW wheels?

Thanks.

IIRC the factory 3G dually tire is a 235 (maybe a 245) 75 17. it is a TINY bit taller than the SRW and its obviously narrower.

to be able to put a 35 inch tire on the rear you would need new studs and spacers. another option is to step up to a 19. 5 inch rim with a rougher tire able to cary more weight. you can get super swampers in 35's for duallys that are narrow, but i dont think for a 17 inch rim... .

I've seen it done. A truck I saw with no spacer between the duallys the tires were touching with the extra weight from the trailer. One was spaced wider and was fine. For taller tires I've seen Michelin military tires used (~37") They are narrower than normal off-road tires and they last alot longer and I think have a higher load capacity. Not sure if you can get them in 35's though.

My dads 04' has the 19. 5's and theyre too much $$$$. He's also having a bad vibration problem at low speeds while braking. So i wanted to use his factory wheels. Super swamper dosent yet make 17's.

I wouldn't go any bigger than a 255/85/16 on a dually. Of course, that 's my opinion and it doesn't apply to anybody with a third gen anyhow.

Stock 17" dually wheel is 6. 5" wide. Not nearly wide enough for a 315/70R17. Stock tire on a dually is LT235/80R17. The vibration on your dad's truck I would guess may be brake vibration if its beginning at low speed only under braking. You too may end up with the same issue as I suspect that its being caused by the extra weight of the larger tires and wheels. If your gonna go bigger, you're gonna need a spacer for the rear and I'd suggest leaving the dually hub adapter off the front. This will let you run a stock or aftermarket style wheel that is 8-10". The other issue is gonna finding aftermarket dually wheels that look similiar to the front wheel you choose. Nor do I know of any aftermarket dually wheels wider than 6. 5" If you stuff a wide tire on a narrow wheel it will wear poorly and handle poorly. Dunno if you can get to where you want to be with the truck with whats out in the market. Like one of the others said, 19. 5's may be the best(or only) way to get it done.

Good luck,

Jay

If I run adapters and go with the 22. 5's there shouldnt be a problem with finding supersingle fronts to match the rears :-laf But that would cost lots of money. Oh well, so much for the dually idea (atleast till its paid off ;) ). Thanks for the replies.

Interco makes a bunch of tires for 17" rims. Personally I wouldn't run Swampers on a truck that's being used for the street, but to each their own.

Contact??

The owner of Off Road Unlimited (ORU) did something like this with his duramax dually. It was in one of the primedia rags I get. If you google images, "Off Road Unlimited Dually" you can see some pics. Its the black one. I think he went a little bigger than 35's though. Might ring em and see how they did it. Just an idea.

My neighbor is running 315 with 2" spacers on rears. I'm running 265 with no spacers, have about 1/2" of room between duals.

MChildress,is the 1/2 inch with truck empty? How much gap with a heavy load? Got caught in a blizzard pulling gooseneck with straight treads. Looking to get more traction and maybe a little more height.

JStrader,my tires are the 265 70 17 10ply rating LR D,3000 LB at 60 PSI Buckshot Mudders. I run 60 PSI in the rears with no rub problems without spacers. I'v pulled 14,000 on my gooseneck trailer and still have over a 1/4".

.

I needed a way to get two large 4 wheelers in the back of my truck for a trip to the mountains this last summer. I built a rack that sits in the bed and makes a 6'x8' flat bed that runs over the bed rails. With the rack, x2 4 wheelers, people and gear at about 2500 lbs. We went to Angle Fire and Red River in northern NM and Durango and Pagosa Springs in Co. . WE had a blast riding through the moutains, but people thought I was crazy sticking my head in the rear wheel well checking the duals. The altitude dropped my tire preasure to 55 psi and still no rub. There are several trucks in the area running the same tires pulling equipment and hay with no problems. I'v got about 15,000 miles on the tires now with no problems.

.

P. S. These tires are the same height as the oem tires.
