Tire valve stems

I thought I had put this to bed...

Yesterday when checking my tire pressures, I detected a loss in my outer passenger dual. After some checking, it turned out it was my valve extension that was leaking. I took both off on that side, and the pressure seems to hold.

But that puts me back to square one. I'm having quite a hard time checking and 'topping' off my pressures on the rear duals. Anybody else has a good solution for this?

Thanks. Alain

I use a short plastic valve stem extender on the outer dual - this is the type used on the cars that had full wheel covers and is not pressurized. I use nothing on the inside dual - I just have a piece of 1/2" (I think) rubber fuel line that slips over the valve cap for removal and replacement.

I use a dually air chuck and tire gauge, of course, and it's not that bad a chore to check pressures and top them up as required.

Ithink having a DUAL WHEEL air chuck is a must. I two use the plastic about 2" valve stem extenders, but have had no problems with leaks. They are sold on-line at www.southwestwheel.com for . 50 each. Also I tend to run max pressure in the front tires and 50-55 psi in the rears. You might want to get a "TIRE KNOCKER" to help check them. It simply looks like a small club, you strike the tire and listen for it sound, low tires have low pitched thud sound. Also a tire that goes down on you while driving will eat itself vary fast.

I had 1-1/4" steel valve stems installed, needed them for the filtered valve cores for the equal beads. Then used 3/4" extensions on the duals, they have a spring loaded center "lid" on them, so you don't have to use caps. Don't need the extensions on the front. They work real good, don't move around on you while using the tester & air chuck, still need the dually chuck and tester tho. BTW, the beads work great too, 5K now, and smooth as glass.

On the 03's you can mt. the wheels where ever you want them, no locator pins, so was able to locate stems 180* apart.

Don't they sell Crossfire air equalization systems for light trucks? I know they have them for the heavy trucks, and they kick @ss! talk about convenient! they keep the pair of tires at the same air PSI... . that way, you only have to check 10 tire pressures, rather than 18 on a class 8'er... . Check and look into it to see if they offer these for our trucks.

Ok. Got some 2" metal extenders for the duals, and a chuck with PSI gauge that screws right into my compressor hose. This way, I can air up the tires and see my pressure in one step. Will try it out tonight.

I just realized that the crossfire tire pressure equalization system is madfe by a company in Lincoln, Nebraska. I might drive by there and take a look / chat with them...

Thanks for the responses!

I have an 02, when it went in for inspection the valve stems were lined up, when I got it back they are not lined up. Not sure if they are 180 deg out or not. I would suspect if it has locator pins, and the idiot missed them I would have a vibration?

Can't wait until the Garage is done, and I can rotate them myself. Right now its tough to do in the stones, on the side of a hill :(

Does anyone have any information on the crossfire system for our trucks? What about the 'cat's eye' system? Thanks in advance
