almost makes me want to buy a Volt

Tire chain info

when GM found out about the problem they put a 220000 mile warranty on the injectors. so after you pay for the rebuild they will send you a new set of faulty injectors.

Fair enough, and faulty or not, a 220k warranty a on normal wear part is pretty decent of them IMHO!

Shorry folks. Had a small vacation.

Finally got the old engine pulled down after the part transfer and I think the cause of failure was a broken valve. Still not sold on that theory as the push tube was severely bent.

I'm on my phone with limited capabilities but first few pics will be the carnage dmax.

Next will be a 6. 0 getting the exhaust repaired.

Last will be an injector from a dmax that I did a full fuel system on this week.

Well here's the dmax injector pic along with some of the asphaltanes (sp?) from his fuel filter.

I just picked the filter off and that was the transfer from just handling it. Guuuhhhaaa.....

Try as I might I cannot sell these guys supplemental fuel filter systems. I guess we will just sell them injectors and fuel pumps.

Well, I'm sure that since your buddy has never seen it, it couldn't possibly happen. Has he seen a HPCR 5. 9 drop a valve seat? Has he seen a dt 466 loose liner seals? How about vp 44's, has he seen one of those bad? Any engine can have any kind of failure, despite the best maintenance.

As to the failure we still haven't torn it down yet. When the new long block gets in ill swap components then I'll be a lot closer to diagnosing the failure. The customer was towing a large trailer at highway speeds for a long time before the failure. I'm thinking either an injectors failure hydro locking a cylinder, valve stem breaking or ?????

he attributes to it being such a new motor... ... its was not meant to say that because he has never seen that motor in his shop, that they never fail..... but they have not been around too long... . trust me he has seen plenty over the years... .

I would guess it was yet another failure of the wrist pin/piston connection... I have expired two D-Max engines with the same failure... Both were stock LB7 series D-Max engines. Not sure if its a trend, but both were the 3rd cylinder back on the R/S of the engine. After the piston pulls off the wrst pin, one or more valves hit it and and things start flyng apart... Add some boost pressure and lots of unburned fuel beng injected, it eventually gets slammed into the still spnning rod/pin and breaks it up into small pieces... . When you pull the pan, theres tons of small pieces spread nicely all over the place...
