Test Drove new 6.0 6-speed Today...My Impression (Long)

startup surge on a JD tractor?

No one leaves a set in...

long enough to have problems on the pre-03s! Hahahahaha!:D

No, seriously, I have not heard of a single problem with pre-03 injectors and the 03s have not been out long enough to tell. I don't expect any. ;)

The injection systems between the ISBe and the duramax are nearly identical with the exception of their ECM's. But who knows what GM/Isuzu have going on in their "heads" :D

They have injector problems, we have Lift Pump, and Space (4-door) problems.

All Dodge has to do is turn up the HP a LITTLE more (never enough ;D) put another gear in the Auto, make a freakin' BIGGER rear door, and let word of mouth get the word out...

Dodge never ceases to amaze me with how close it comes to making people happy, then just sits on it's bum, and says, "Well, Be happy with that" They know what we want, but decide not to do it?

My Dad's D-Max is in the shop right now with a bad injector at 66-67K on it. I'm going to assume it was a bad injector o-ring as the crankcase filled up with diesel fuel (Leaving the underside and tailgate of the truck a horrendous mess) ands he ran out of fuel (with a 1/4 tank) in less than 50 miles. He filled up with fuel, and drove another 100 miles home, (using 3/4 tank of fuel just to get here) it's supposed to be fixed today. Guess What GM replaced? (After driving 150 miles on a crankcase FULL of Diesel Fuel ONLY (no oil)

GM replaced, One Injector. We are at 66-67K, this truck will be run HARD (as always), I guess We will see how long it takes for a turbo or bearing to grenade when we are either grossing 27-35K or doing 85MPH on the highway.

BTW, The Allison is holding up just fine, and it feels really good to have 5 gears to pull with.

Just a rant. .

I dumped my first Chevy truck at 77K miles since I couldnt keep it out of the shop. Looks like some things never change :D

So. Are the D-Max engines any better than the 6. 5's?

Night and Day.

a 350RWHP D-Max isn't hard to do...

D-Max's run around 16's - 17's in the 1/4 Stock.

Better than a 6. 5. How to Compare?

Better than the Cummins? No. (Stock to stock,, Maybe?)

Better than the 6. 0L PSD ? The 6. 0 isn't even better than the "old" 7. 3L PSD, so make your assumptions there.

OK. My greater concern is the D-max in stock configuration. We will do no power upgrades to anything we buy, and we will rely on Detroit to get it right, or close to it.

Within a year or so, our current low-bid truck will be replaced by another low-bid truck. I tow into some remote places and greatly prefer a truck that itself, won't have to be towed back out.

I have no idea which manufacturer will bid the fifty cents lower to get the deal. My personal preferences should be obvious, but I won't be the one to sign the contract.

I replied back on this subject about 6-months ago. I forget the details but while at Cummins NW I asked the guy who works there.

He said I and my 03 have no worries, the Cummins injector applies pressure at the larger head area. The Duramax applies pressure at the tip where the fuel is forced into the cylinder.

that is the best I can remember.
