4.5L V6 Powerstroke a reality

Looks to me if you want a work truck it will be a Ford to do the job.

I guess ill give my thoughts here. No one has said it yet. The reason the DMax can take so much fuel with a stock turbo. The aluminum heads are the reason. They absorb and transfer heat very well,so well in fact that the EGTS are much cooler on a dmax all other things being equal. I worked my cousins Dmax, and im impressed with the power, and useable towing power it has. Towing the Dmax can tow the biggest trailer out of the DOdge/Ford/. Chevy before overheating, again the aluminum heads are partly responsible

Robertyoke, there is no way a 3G Dodge with a TST box will hang with a Dmax towing ,it may outpower it for 5 seconds, the cummisn will be hitting 1700 EGTS in seconds and the dmax wil be running1250. Which one will make it to the top?

I love my Cummins, but i am very impressed with how the dmax responds to fuel and how well it manages EGTS in relation to power increases.

Nice run, Mackin. Still doesn't make me want to buy a Duracan :) No doubt these V8s can make big power, but will they hold up the same and as long as a Cummins?

If GM made the truck with a Solid Front Axle, and the frame not dragging the ground, and perhaps the front clip refined, I would consider a GM, of course I would have to swap in a Cummins. Course I would buy a D/A before a 6. 0 any day.

Heck of a peak on the torque curve though. Not near as flat as a cummins, and hits it at a much higher rpm. May be a diesel, but runs and provides power in the same way as a gas motor - has to rev. Isn't that what you try to avoid in a diesel motor? If you want something to rev, get a ricer motor... oh, wait... it is a ricer motor. Isuzu.

I was at a light waiting to go straight yesterday and I see a big black cloud. I say "Oh, diesel!" So as I am trying to see it in the mass of vehicles out comes this white Quad cab, sporty Dmax, just the Duramax badge, no others, hauling butt from the light opposite direction. I wonder how well he was bombed? Nice looking, yes, but I will take the longevity that comes with cast iron and I6 design.

I've had 2 so far. A 2001 and a 2003. I was pleased with the performance of both of them. The 01 had some software hickups, and the computer went out after the dealer cleaned the engine with a steam cleaner. Got the Duramaximizer on the 03 and haven't had any trouble. Only got 42000 on it though. It does great with my 37 foot 5th wheel. The main complaint I have is mileage. These things stink. Best I ever get is 14. 5 unloaded, and I don't drive that bad. Usually it's more like 12. It only improves just a little when the wife drives it so I know it isn't me.

The main reason I went with the GMC was because of the Allison. I have heard of some trouble, but treated properly, these things are great. I've worked on them in larger trucks and they have a good track record. Initially there were some software problems, but I think they have that worked out. I guess we'll see when they really start getting some miles on them.

On another note, A friend of mine has a 90 4x4 reg cab for sale. I drove it. I was just thinking about getting it as a second vehicle. I am now selling my dmax and going to drive the Dodge daily. Doesn't ride near as good, but I love the low rpm grunt these things have. And no payments!!! woohoo
