Just a comment here...

Yesterday coming home from riding 4-wheelers, had a very strong head wind on the interstate. I was just chill'n, BS'n with my partner and running about 65 in the righthand lane to keep the wind from beating stuff to death, when behind me I see a new DuraMax slowly coming up from behind. I guess he felt like he had some thing to prove (must'a been tipped off by the Mag-hytec, the gauge pod or something). He is pulling a very long and expensive race car trailer. As he pulls out to go around, I see he is really mashing down on the throttle to go around a Cummins. Then I see this PLUME of smoke from under the truck in the area of the transmission. This jerk goes around me grinning like a Cheshire cat, like he has really accomplished something... Well he did... He sprayed droplets of oil all over my windshield and spewed enough smoke that he looked like Uncle Buck (that movie with John Candy). I just let him go... figuring the transmission gods would have their way with him soon...

But WOW, WAS I IMPRESSED with a DuraMax!!! :D :D :D

Ha!

It was probably a mixture of 15W40 and diesel fuel. Those DMaxes have injector lines under the valve covers and on their forum there are a few guys with complaints of crankcases full of diesel and the excess leaking out!

It very well could be the transmission though as well. I have always had a bit of respect for the Allison name but the problems those GM guys are having... I don't want any part of it!

That car was one of the best things about the movie. :-laf Especially when he shut ot off. BOOM!

I personally like it when he stops, and the shocks are so worn out it keeps bouncing... . I like the white smoke... Hmm, he had lots of fuel going through that motor to get it to smoke white at idle:rolleyes: ... hahahaha,

I aint never seen an Allison transmission smoke ..... If he was blowing crankcase oil do to fuel delution I'm sure you would have seen him up the road hitch hiking ... He smoked you that bad, you never seen him again ??He was prolly chipped and blew out some sooty condensation ..... What's next coolant ?? ;)

Hey Mackin. Long time since I've been over at The Diesl Page. There's not a whiole lot of cryin over here. It's more of a whining cause that means we are going to have to spend MORE money to go faster. ;) Has GM finally worked out the bugs with the injection and filtration systems? I heard a while back when I was still over there that GM was going to have a variable housing turbo or something like that. Any truth to that? I must admit that sometimes I do mis my Dmax cause that joker was fun with the Juice on Level 4. :p

Later,

Hey Reb ... .

Long time, just re-uped figured I'd stir the soot a lil !!!

Same OLE same OLE ... .

The VRT is coming mid year but rumor is it will be hydraulic not electrical as in the Furd ...

The fuel injection issues plague on ... GM addressed it only with easier serviceability ..... The jury IMO is still out on secondary filtering but I have a 2um Cat setup to put on nevertheless ...

I changed an OE filter on a 02 last week at 49 K ,first change ... . It was blacker then my tailpipe thru out after I cut it open, believe it ... . No significant difference in truck performance ... . Was running perfect no injector abnormal noise prior to my changing or after of course ... .

So IMO there is sucky ones and good ones ,the sucky ones get all the attention ... ;) Just common sense to have best fuel quality possible in coming ...

Mac

On edit : Here's just a LIL whiff for ya #ad

Diesel Truck Resource tried this a couple of months back and there was so little traffic that they went back to Cummins only.
