The FACT that many "nice folks" buy Duramaxes is hardly an issue! Folks aren't "nice" simply because they drive Dodges - or "bad" if they drive something else. We aren't particularly defined by what we DRIVE, but rather by how we conduct ourselves as individual beings.
The basic consideration among rational and mature thinking individuals here HAS been concerning DESIGN ISSUES related to the DM diesels as opposed to Cummins in particular - and the relative durability differences and operating characteristics in comparison between the "big three" domestic auto makers. The establishment of boards such as this one is exactly to expose, examine and discuss those differences to better select the best vehicle for OUR particular use - and the WORSE that can happen is for board moderators, members or users to deliberately attempt to censor, control or manipulate the flow of info that is offered to provide that flow.
NONE of those issues CHANGE just because the buyer is a "nice guy"! NOR will any of us in ANY way benefit if GM experiences another diesel failure - such a failure would only remove another choice from our menu.
Sure, we DON'T wish bad luck upon ANY buyer - we ALL pay way too much for this stuff to see it wasted on a bad product. We may all indulge in varying degrees of humor in poking fun at other brands, as *I* do in my sig line - and defending our OWN buying choice, and may also attempt to offer what WE consider helpful info to prospective buyers. But *I* don't see many here HOPING for another GM diesel failure - after all, I was never a Chrysler supporter until my own current Dodge - I just bought a Cummins wrapped in Dodge sheetmetal. and never have regretted it!
This isn't about emotion or "warm and fuzzy feelings" - it IS about getting the MOST value for your vehicle dollar, and as the occasion arises, helping others do the same.
If I were buying another vehicle today, I would be hard pressed to decide between a Dodge and a Ford - I would NOT buy a GM at this point simply because there is no established track record to date, and too much money is at stake to gamble on so many new and unproven design issues - that may well all prove out in time, and I hope it does. But it has NOTHING to do with "nice people", or "bad people" - it DOES have to do with design, engineering and company support. No more - no less!
Time will tell...
