Competition Running Race Fuel and saying your not?

Competition Indy Pics

ok. out running at the street races. Deside to line up with a 2WD, standard cab, duramax 6 speed. I'm a quad cab 4x4 6 speed. Basicly we are exact oppsites :)

Since my pressure place is funky and getting to 3rd is difficult, we desided to do a 25mph run. We got into 3rd and launched once we both got to a marker. We both were on the breaks and spooling. Dude, saw my guage hit 20psi and I had to really have my foot ont he breaks, like break fading. :) !!!! I took off at 20psi and she was GONE! :) my buddy said that once I started to spool, the sound of our open pipes dissappeared :)

We were neck and neck the entire run! considering the differnece in trucks, wow i kicked his butt :)

Not sure what model year the duramx was. But he claim he has a 100hp hyper tech installed. Nice sound straight pipped exhaust.

Few notes, not excuses:

1. Edge attitude reported 10% slippage.

2. I felt a power drop once in 6th, highway runs don't do this if you cruising in 6th and drop the peddle. I think I'm runningout of fule. Stock fuel system

3: had my tail got on. the chubby had a plastic roll up cover. That's like . 200 in 1/4 gain with that or no tail gait in my experiences.

4: CURB WEIGHT! I guestament 7300 pounds for me. I weight 7400, fuel and me. I had 1/4 tank _ GF (135-ish for the GF, 200 for me) something liek 250 pounds of possible fuel not there. give or take some here and there.

5: from what I read, that chevy can't be m ore then 6500, maybe closer to 6000 pounds. This is what I wanna know. if I really have 800-1000 pounds on this guy, that mean that POS durmax really does suck with that hypertech.

There was another duramax with an allisen, little lift and tires with edge + attitude. on the eway, I would walk that guy all day long. We have the same basic truck. quad cab, long box 4x4. He weighted in at 7300-ish.

I'm so pondering selling off my jeep and putting $4000-$5000 down on a 2wd 6 speed standard cap Cummin's. I would like to have something in the 04. 5 and up years once injector pump modifications come around and start making some real power. Twin turbo street car/drag car. Start off with a 6 speed, put some money into making it shift fast. And then try one of them fancy autos later? heh :)

What are the curb weights of the Dodge 2wd, standard cab truck?

If you want to drag race, ditch the 6 and go for a beefed auto. I routinely get my butt handed to me stop light to stop light by auto trucks with less hp. open road i have the power, but short game with the six speed sucks. just my . 02 oh yeah, and if you think a 20 psi launch from a roll is cool, try a 20 psi 4x4 launch from a stop with the auto, it rocks.

I need to find my time slips from when I was stock running at the track to get base line numbers. I was able to spin 4 tires just enought outa the hole and bark them in 3rd, droping 4x4 as I grab 4th. (if I was quick, drop 4x4 as I grabbed 3rd). I should get my 60 foot times and compare them to an auto with the same HP.

This is why I would like to get a 6 speed truck to possibly convert to auto, should I deside to go the race truck route with my "toy". If one keeps the parts in tack, switching betweent he 2 should be rather easy.

e. g. I _KNOW_ I ran 1. 6second 60foot in an AWD, turbo 4 cylinder 6 speed Audi TT. Talk about no power without boost, this is one motor that was just that. but using the motors momentium (5000rpm) to get moving outa the hole would for sure snap your neck back if you were not paying attention as a passenger.

Believe me, i've done my share of 4x4 launches with my 6 speed, i know it can be done, but it tears up parts bad. With my current clutch, i can three pedal it and build about 10-15 psi boost slipping the clutch before i let it fly. It is a blast, but too many of those and you just ate a $1800 clutch. Now some of the pulling clutches would be great for this, but in my experience *(no i have not tried them all) they are too slow shifting once you do get them out of the hole. (very heavy discs).

I have done conversions also, while not bad, i wouldnt call them easy, being 2 wheel drive would simplify things. Iv'e always done 4x4's. I guess my point, for what it's worth, is you are going to go out and buy a 6 speed, then spend the money to convert it, then spend the money to beef the trans. Seems to me you would be money ahead just to buy the auto, and do the magic treatment from the get go. And i dont care how fast you are, an equally equipped auto will beat you.

When You Get A Chance Go To You Closest Truck Stop And Weigh, You Might Be Surprised

Not sure if this was meant for me, but i know my truck is a total pig. 8400 with 30 gal of fuel. fill the aux tank, makes 8800, add the pregnant wife, 10000. oops, just kidding.

My 99 hits the scales with me in it and a half tank of fuel at 7116. If the track is hooking good I run 1. 66-1. 69 60 foots. Last time out the highest boost I could leave at was 15 psi and I ran a 1. 76 60 foot. The track wouldn't handle anything higher without blowing all 4 tires. And that with Density Altitude numbers in the 3400-3500 foot range that day. I may go to drag radials on all 4 corners in the future.

I'm about 7400-ish full of fuel and me hanging off the side pressing the button to be weighed. I have the scale slip some place at home.
