Dynatrac conversion ad ball joints

I will be installing a dynatrac conversion early next year. I have not notices any ball joint wear yet but with 85k on the clock I am sure I just havn't looked close enough.

So it would be worth my time and money to get the ball joints done at the same time.

From what I have read here, Moog adjustable and off sets are out. That leaves the not preferred OEM and what ever you guys tell me.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Carli joints. But I can't find any pricing on them.

Can a dealer please PM or email me the cost of the uppers and the projected cost of the lowers?

It looks like Dyna Trac has Ball Joints for our trucks now too but I haven't heard of any reviews on TDR or any other forums for that matter.

I have the Carli uppers with new OE lowers and will eventually upgrade the lowers to Carli also because I was blown away when I saw and held the Carli uppers. To a gear head like me they are practically works of art.

$1100 for ball joints? I know that Carli is known for his high quality parts and from what I have read on this site he keeps that alive.

I don't know if I can swing that.

Are there any other brands or models that people are happy with?

The odds are very good they will always be the best... ... ... ... I have never seen anyone else so passionate about building what ever it takes to get the job done. Sage takes a great deal of pride in seeing his products being beatin on out in the dez and comeing out just like new.

I deal with some performance companies helping where I can etc and I am still impressed with what comes out of their shop.

I see people spending $400-600 on BJ installs so the initial price for the parts is nothing if you do not do the install your self.

How far past the wheel will these hubs stick out?

What kind of backspacing would help hid the hubs?

It is either 4 1/4 or 5 1/4 from the wheel mounting surface. can not remember exactly. i did post this accuratly at one point. this is with their hubs. they fit flush, slightly inside with toyo mt 35s on stock wheels

I have a dynatrac kit sitting in the garage. I was about to install it and I noticed the upper BJs are gone at 50K. I've decided to wait until Carli gets their lowers ready and do it all at once. Yes the are expense, but if (and nobody knows yet) these units will last a few 100K, they will be more than worth it. There is a good read on the 3rd gen BJs on Quad 4x4s web page. Basically, its a flawed design and the front end will eat BJs. The Carlis seem to be far and away the best available and if they do no better than doubt the life of the joints over the others, your better off money and time wise (unless you do it yourself and enjoyed spending your days off rebuilding your front end). Also read the News section on Carlis web site about the development of their lowers and you'll see Moogs aren't all that. Carlis are expense but they are the best thing going now. Time will tell of they're worth it in the long run.

Although harder to find... Moog does make non-adjustable uppers for our application. That's what I replaced my OE balljoints with at around 180k... Moog uppers and lowers.



Don't assume your balljoints are worn just because you see a lot of threads about it... mine were still going good at 180k, I replaced them as preventative maintenance, not necessity.

I am not assuming that my ball joints are bad. Its just that my truck has a wandering problem, never drove right after I wrecked it, and it has spent some time in the mud. I am just doing some looking on problems and possible fixes.

Let me be clear---I am in no way saying that Carli ball joints are not the best on the market right now. My only point is that they are expensive-and they are quite abit more than others. If you plan to keep your truck for a long while and put many many miles on it, they will probably be the last ones you will ever have to buy. They are one example of "you get what you pay for".
