MTE's freeze plug sprung a leak on his head... can I say all that in one sentence... :D

He should be able to pick up his truck on Friday night!

There is a great story to go along with this...

... if we make one up?

I hate having a freeze plug in my head--everyone think its a scar from a huge pimple.

Seriously, I want to see how the dealership does before I pass judgement. They promised the truck back tomorrow.

sunday

Hey anyone wanna have breakfast before around 830 just up the street from dez's So far it looks like we are haveing about ten guys. The directions are 95 to 195 once on 195 come back in to Mass dont pull a Jodice and do RI take exit 1 bottom of ramp their is a old pancake house called something different restraunt on right thats were we will eat. follow straight another 1/4 of a mile til end you have to go left or right,go left down across from seekonk speedway white shop with a dynojet sign on fence coke machine out front, right across from pit entrance of speedway. If you miss exit one got to 2 like to his old shop bottom of ramp right go past mcdonalds to light at rte 6 take right he is on left.

I'll take another stab at those directions:

From I-95 going North, take exit 20 onto I-195 going East (South) This is right in the middle of Providence, it's a right exit in the middle of a construction zone... at least it was the last time I was there.

About 4. 5-5 miles down the road, take exit 1

and bear right on Fall River Ave. This should merge with route 6 going east. Dez's is about 2. 5 miles on the right, like Scott says, opposite pit entrance for Seekonk Speedway. Look for the Dynojet sign and that all important coke machine.

I picked up the truck this AM (Friday) Here is the story:

When I took the truck in on Wednesday afternoon, I had coolant dripping down the back of the block. Inspection with a mirror suggested it was coming out of the head gasket. Yikes!!! The mechanic took the work order from the Service writer while I was still there, and brought me with him while he diagnosed the problem. It turned out to be the tiny freeze out plug on the back of the head that was weeping.

Thursday I got a call from the dealership to say the part was backordered, wouldn't be available until Monday, and they would schedule the repair once the part arrived. The truck should be fixed by next Wednesday, Thursday at the latest.

Scott was nice enough to suggest that this was "Bull****" and that I try to get the part from Cummins myself. Gee, once I had a phone number, I located the part on the first try. I drove to Rocky Hill, picked it up (cost a whole dollar for two of em), and dropped it on the service writers desk. They finished the repair this AM (Friday).

In all fairness, I don't blame the dealership. The mechanic who did the work was excellent, and the service department as a whole rates pretty high in my book. But the Dodge parts distribution network really fell flat on it's face on this one. I told them that I'd bet good money that I can find this plug at any NAPA store if I have the size. They didn't disagree. There is no excuse for not having a part that's on a par with a common nut or bolt.

I haven't driven the truck far enough to say I have gotten it completely warmed up, so I'm going on their word that the problem is fixed.

I am really glad it wasn't the head gasket as I first suspected.

MTE
