Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Dyno results

Before getting any modifications done this past week, I had the shop perform a baseline Mustang dyno test. The peak HP came in at 146. 5 @ 41 mph. They said they tested in 3rd locked up so I think that would equal 1790 rpm (31. 6" tires). Stock advertised is 180 HP. Doesn't HP peak at about 2200 rpm? Is there any logical reason why they wouldn't have run it higher? What really surprised me is the stock torque that peaked at 629 ft. lbs. @ 1440 rpm. Ambient temp: 68*F, Pressure 729mm, Hum: 37. 7%. Can I trust these numbers?

have them start the run in overdrive 55 mph or above. you don't want it to down shift in to 3rd. you want it locked up and under heavy load in od. you should get some different numbers.

Thanks for the tip. Now that power mods are done I'll have to wait until the transmission is beefed up to run again.

Also, the "advertised" power ratings are typically at the flywheel, I believe. The dyno is showing what's available at the wheels. There's about a 15 to 20 percent loss from flywheel to the tires.



Do that math at 20% loss and you'll find the dyno is pretty close to showing "advertised" figures.

Peak hp will be at 2500+ rpm and should be about 175 hp. The power at low rpm on your run is about right with that type of dyno.
