Would it then be correct to say that by your post count that YOU know-

I happen to believe that several parties on this thread have lots of knowledge on this subject, however, they do disagree on some things- but you probably know that :-laf :-laf

I am not sure of your question but it is more air that we need. It is a misconception that oxygen and fuel are the only two factors. If all we needed was more oxygen then guys would be straping on a oxygen bottle instead of a nitrous bootle. I can explain more if this is what you were wondering.

If I can level the road here I'll say that I want to run on both dyno's and test several things, hope to catch up with both of you this year!

Jim,

Do you usually see lower than normal numbers on a load dyno?

Richard

Unbelievable how I can post a thread to attempt to clear up some questions I get at most every dyno event and it has turned into this.

Cliff notes version for Winspeed-

*Peak numbers don't tell the whole story. Understand the area under the curve.

*Correction factors vary. Know what they are when you attempt to compare runs

* Inertia dyno's will work on turbo diesels. Loading will too. In some cases, loading dyno's are more operator dependant than inertia so numbers can vary between operators more so than a Dyno Jet. In some cases a loading dyno will work turbo's better than inertia. I've seen consistant results from all of them.

* Dyno's are tools. Engine, chassis, loading, inertia, ALL of them are tools to aid in performance tuning.

* If you drag race, I provided a calculator that I found to be the best one so far. These are estimates and will not always be dead-on, but in most cases this one seems to be consistant with MY dyno numbers against most every vehicle I have compared. You must use mph, not ET. Just another tool.

* Have fun with the tools and keep an open mind. You may learn something.

That's it. Didn't mean to start a war, didn't mean to trash any other dyno, didn't mean to appear to be a know-it-all on the subject either.

The only one I've ever run on is Piers and the numbers were real close to my local dynojet wehn I got back... . within 5 HP.

I for one appreciate the info and you did answer a lot of questions I had. The first dyno like yours I have been on was at BD last year and I left going  Now I understand more of what happened and why.

Thanks David

DavidTD,I am sorry that it went the way it did. I think all the info on these sites is great. I was simply trying to explain to doc that turbo diesels are different then non turbo gassers and he took it as a personal attack on his intelligence. Not sure why?I hope you guys keep on posting the technical side of all this stuff It is definatley interesting.

There is a very good reason not to strap an oxygen bottle onto the engine instead of nitrious... ... Can you say BOOM! :)

Doug

we have used oxygen in the cold weather to get the old fork lift running as well you can check for a seal leak on a engine with straight oxygen. But to make more power you need more nitrogen as well don't you?Like a hot air balloon.

I find that funny enough to comment. . . . . since pure oxygen on oil or petroleum fuel can spontaneously ignite.

Frankly, I encourage you to do so. I'd like the world to be polluted by one less mouthy Canadian. :p

A shame for sure - but not too surprising in a mixed group I guess - the only defense some have to fact and logic is personal attack and insult - the "verbal bully" or "schoolyard mentality"... :-{}

I've had a few similar episodes - one currently in another thread - where some of the cruder and "logic-challenged" immediately abandon sticking to the subject and it's issues, and resort to what they are left with and do best, personal attack and ridicule against ANY who would DARE question THEIR opinions or beliefs. They seem to feel the one who shouts the loudest, or uses the best insult, wins the debate - totally oblivious to the fact that THEY lost as soon as they departed from the subject, and typed the first juvenile personal attack...

Personally, *I* feel they and their tactics are more to be pitied, than anything else - they have to live with themselves - the rest of us only rarely come in contact with them... ;) ;)

I pity people who lack the resolve to get an education, then insist that somehow their position in a discussion which is based on magazine article technical training  trumps the position of somebody with the education and real-world experience to back what they're saying.

This would include folks like Sled Puller, J. Davy, etc.
