Took the old truck in for a few dyno runs today and here are the reults:

1st run: 273 rwhp and 534rwtq, Edge ez on level 3

2nd run: 322 rwhp and 632 rtwtq, ez Level 3 and VA 50%

3rd run: 358 rwhp and 787 rwtq, ez l3 and VA 100%

Good news the the torque curve wa svery flat! Max torque was 787 at 1900 rpm and was still at 650 at 3200 rpm!

Had to shut down the third run early because of egt, now if VA throws a little timing in there maybe they will stay down a little longer.

I know these are not great numbers but for a basically stock truck with just boxes on it performance wise I was happy.

great report! in the quest for flat torque curves, are you able to post your graphs? EZ on level 3 is looking good as a stacking partner to the VA duration box.

flat torque curves are good... .

check out the fueling box summary for my email address. your scan will probably be larger than the board will accept -- but you can send me the pics and I'll put it up on my nwbombers web site if you want. I think this is a good box combo.

He's saying that a Van Aaken C3. 2 stacked with an EZ at level 3 only put out 75 HP. My EZ on level 4 puts out this much. What would be interesting would be to see the dyno graph to see the midrange gain.

I was not able to do a full run on 100% due to high egt's so I did a shorter run to get the graph. Hopefully Doug will get the graphs posted on the nwbombers site since they are too big to post here.

trying... the admin site is down at the moment. I don't have a lot of space available either; those files are 1 MB each!

on edit: site is still down but I got the size reduced by going to 8 bit color instead of 24 big. Bill, please post or email an explanation/interpretation of the runs -- what run represents what box settings, and esp where you had your egt problems.

Is it true that your truck is a 250HP SO engine?

Doug, my apologies for the big files! Here is the breakdown:

Yes my truck is a 250 hp SO 5 speed model, The one graph with two runs on it is my first and third runs. The graph by itself is my second run. Here are thje setting and results for the runs:

1st run: 273 rwhp and 534rwtq, Edge ez on level 3

2nd run: 322 rwhp and 632 rtwtq, ez Level 3 and VA 50%

3rd run: 358 rwhp and 787 rwtq, ez l3 and VA 100%

Looking at those numbers the VA box on 100% added 85 rwhp and 243 rwtq. Not bad for the flip of a switch in my book. With the VA on the top settings the egt goes up almost as fast as the tach and hit's 1600 pretty easy. For that run we shortened the run to around 2900 rpm so it dips off after that.

bpenrod,

Where you at in North Metro D-Town, and where did you Dyno at. I have my edge on "3" with an 03 HO.

I am East Side near Metro Beach

I live North of Armada and Dyno'd at Paybe Technologies on 15 and Crooks. Seems like a great guy to deal with. He does mostly imports as far his business but he just got a new 3500 SRW oil burner so he really took an interest is setting my truck up on the dyno. I beleive his website is paynetechnologies.com.

ok, I got 'em published. check out the matrix and follow the "dougs report" link for the VA duration box.

Do you not have a stock run on this dyno?

Doug,

Didn't have time to play with the EZ so no real "stock" Dyno run. I did see another posting a few days ago with an 03 SO. I think it was 205 hp and slightly over 400 rwt. Thanx for posting the info!!!

Jeff K and Greg,

Was reading back thru the post and to clear things up a bit the VA box put an additional 85 hp on top of the EZ along with 253 rwt. If you compare the combination to a stock truck (based on another post with a stock 03 SO like mine) the total peak to peak gain is approximately 153 rwhp and around 380 rwt.

The stock turbo is still on my truck. Probably won't change it out until I go after more power or it decides to let go. So far it has been working great, it hits about 32 to 34 psi and hold it under WOT. If I turn the VA all the way up it does jump a little before the wastegate catches up so I will probably have to look at something before I put out too much more power.

One question and a comment, bpenrod:

Do you have the edge boost elbow in? your boost numbers sound like you do.

Due to the wide variation in numbers from dyno to dyno, test conditions, correction factors, differences between trucks, etc. , I have avoided making any HP gain statements unless a stock measurement is made on the same dyno. But your estimated numbers are certainly reasonable -- using the 15% drivetrain loss rule of thumb, the 250HP SO would put 212 HP to the rear wheels, making your peak gain equal to 146 HP for the EZ plus VA combo.

Doug,

Yep, those numbers are with the Edge boost elbow installed. The stock one would probably be better on the higher settings since the wastegate does not open quick enough. I appreciate the hp claims, thats why I tried to use general and approximate numbers form the other SO post I read. Keep up the great work!

Bill
