I have an 01. 5 2500 with a Jacobs E-brake. I have had the brake about 7 months now and I use it all the time loaded or empty. My questions is this: If I down shift without reving the engine, is all that torque hard on my clutch? I am no stranger to stick shift as I have been driving standards all my life and I am as old as dirt. I began down shifting my RAM with a rev to bring the engine up to speed with the transmission, but, there is a delay in the e-brake, about a second or so and that causes a gain in distance before braking. Without reving the engine to match the transmission, there is a lot of reverse torque applied to the clutch.

Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.

Life is good, Happy trails to you. :D

I wonder about the same thing. I "double clutch" (another ol' gear jammer :D)when down shifting with the PacBrake on. One way to eliminate the time delay is to wire around the ECM controlled relay and use your in cab switch which is easier to do if you have the gear shift mounted switch.

For life of your clutch, you should always match your engine speed to transmission speed.

There is a way to get around the delay of your brake.

This will be the soulution to your problem.
