I just ordered a set of Toyo Open Country Mud Terrains in 35x12. 50R17 after debating and researching for over a year. I got about 42,000 miles out of the stock BFG's. I was seriously looking at the Pro Comp All Terrains but had a hard time justifying going down to 50psi for a 3000lb max load rating. I aired down the BFG's to 55 and hated the ride. I know it's not quite comparing apples to apples. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I assume a tire rated at a max psi of 80 aired down to 50 or 50 psi must feel softer than a tire with a max psi of 50 aired right to 50psi. Regardless of the difference I was leary of perceived feel of side wall flex. I run unloaded most of the time but still feel better about getting an "E" rated tire since that's what the truck came with.

As a side note and a question to anyone running these tires. My BFG's sucked in the rain even with the TST (look at sig) turned down. They broke loose quite easily and now with 42K on them are ridiculous. How do the Toyo MC do in the rain, hopefully better than the BFG's.

I just recently went with the Cooper Discoverer STT in a 285/70/17. They were $150 each cheaper than the Toyos and I couldn't be more satisfied. They are not "E" rated, but I towed a trailer weighing 10,000 lbs. over 4K miles with no problem.

Good choice in 285. Even though they aren't rated "E" they still have a max load of 3195. What is max psi?

My dream tire is a 35" tire with a max psi rating of 65 or higher with great traction in all conditions especially wet roads and snow.

I'm not sure what the max pressure is, but I think it is 50 psi.

I have the 35" Toyo M/T's and love them. I have not had them on for very long, so I don't know yet as to how they are going to hold up. In the rain I have not had any problems, much better then the stock Michelins. I also had a pair of 33" pro comp A/T's. These toyos are far superior. I never had a problem with the Pro comps, but I never felt safe towing a big trailer because of the weight rating.

Well, are we not talking about 2 different things? At tread and mud tread?

I'm running Toyo Open Country AT and have about 45k on them. They have been great. I think I still have about 10-15 k left on them. I run them at about 40 PSI. when not loaded.

Thats what I'm saying, MT usaully doesn't last as long as a AT. And are more noisy and don't handle as good on hard pac. Just look at them. same tread depth, but because of their design, there is less there. my 2 cents.

You lost me a bit on the having to air down thing. My Procomp Xtreme All-Terrains have a max psi of 65 and E load range.

Sorry for not fully explaining. I had wanted to go with a 35" tire to fill out the wheel well after adding the Kore Recon suspension. The ProComp's and in fact most all terrain tires in 35" have a max psi of 50. I decreased the tire pressure on the BFG's to 55 to see what the ride would feel like. It seemed too mushy to me. Like I said I didn't think I was really getting an apples to apples comparison since the max rating on the BFG's is 80 psi.

I had the Toyo Mud Country (MC) installed today and they aired them to 50psi. The max on the MC's is 65psi. They felt great at 50psi. Similar to the BFG's at 65psi. Very comfortable ride. Little road noise for a mud tire. They look awesome. I can't wait for a little rain or snow to see how they perform on wet roads. The max load at 65psi is 3640. The max load on the Toyo AT is 3305 at 50psi. I think if I bought the AT tire I would have kept the tire inflated close to 50psi which would accelerate wear. From what I have read the AT tire is getting marginally better mileage than the mud tire so I decided to give the MC a try. My goal is 30K or better with rotations every 5K.

I'm running my Pro Comp 35's at 30 psi during hunting season. Does fine with a load in the bed and tag trailer on the rear too. Yes it is a softer ride.

I air up to 45-50 when pulling the fifth wheel. At that pressure it's a smoother ride than stock tires, but not mushy IMO.

FWIW I had the Cooper 35" on before this but swapped them out for Pro Comp due to balancing problems.
