hahhaha... Too funny,... seems like every trade has a go fur... In the electrical / electronic sign industry, we'd send the noobs for Lamp Stretchers when they made the raceways too loose in the signs for the fluorescent bulbs... and Neon regenerator for when a tube would not light.

In the body shop we would send the new guy to get some lacquer thinner in a Styrofoam cup. Normally the bottom would melt out of the cup before they got back with it.

As an apprentice I found out that 1,1,1-Trichloroethane doesn't even slow down in a Styrofoam Cup. We used it to clean 3rd rail before joining sections by welding. A 4" steel I beam with 1" Aluminum extruded into the channel. The compound used in the process would contaminate the weld so it had to go. It was a two step process, weld the steel then weld the aluminum. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is nasty stuff!

But a great cleaner for "almost" anything, especially electronics, lungs, brain, liver and as a side benefit..the embedded grease in the fingerprints and around the fingernails from working on the car the day before...

When having a "GI party" in the avionics shop, never pass up the opportunity to initiate the "fresh", eager-beaver avionics troop by sending them to the propulsion shop for a gallon of prop wash. Best cleaner there ever was. While they're at it, have them stop by OMS (Organizational Maintenance Squadron) for 13 yards of flight line, and the electric shop for a vortex generator in case the power goes out

Ill always remember the guys who fell for getting sent to supply to be measured for a body bag, or on board a ship and being sent to the bow to watch for the mail buoy.

At BSA. Camporee in the late ‘60’s we’d send some newbies in search of perforated flour for hot dogs and the others sought out for 30’ of horizon line.

Or a flagpole cover. Bacon stretcher was also popular.
