Competition 12.66 @ 108.3 with new DTT trans

Competition ATTN Atanta Race Attendee's

Here's what info I have from the pull last night taken from a couple of phone calls this morning. The distances might not be 100% right, but the order is.

Sheid Truck - 306 feet

Dave Mitchell - 299 feet

Lorretta Mitchell - 280's

Jim Fuller - 250 feet

Sled Puller Gene - 248 feet

I guess there was LOTS of carnage last night. The track was packed real tight. Most of the truck couldn't break the tires loose. The Sheid truck seemed to be setup the best for this track with the smaller tires that would spin easier.

Both the Sheid and Mitchell's were very impressive. Awesome display of horsepower. It's nice to see that the competition between the big boys is coming down to track conditions and truck setup instead of a run away horsepower win. These pulls keep getting better and better.

Looks like Scheid might have fixed that weak headgasket problem... . Guys, you gotta wastegate them turbos to below 180psi!! :-laf

Seriously... . I missed out big time by not going.

Maybe next year... .

Scheids Truck Pulls

The Saturday night pulls were awesome at Diesel Extravaganza 2002!! Larry Crawford cleaned house in the 7400# and 8000# pound classes. I got to meet Larry and talk to him for a minute, very nice guy. The open class was awesome, Dave Mitchell won with a pull of 343ft. and Dave Gresch was 2nd with a pull of 325ft. After Dave Mitchell pulled the sled the chain broke, which runs the weight box on the sled. This is the first big truck pull i have ever been to. All i can say is wow, there is a great bunch of people in Terra Heute, and a awesome bunch of show and pullin trucks!! :D  Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Hey guys,

I just got back from the Scheids 2002 event, this definatly made up for me not attending the Nationals, this event was AWESOME!!!

As stated above the big boys cleaned up, as expected, however I would like to name a couple of 3rd place guys, that are so far "unknown" to most of us. In the Friday's 8000# dual rear wheels class a freind of mine, Dave Bratt placed 3rd with a pull just over 300', just behind Larry Crawford.

In Saturday night's 8000# open class, another freind of mine, Daryl Poole placed 3rd ONLY behind Dave Mitchell and Dave Gresh, I thought that was very respectable from a daily drivin' truck, great job guys! Both Dave and Daryl are members of the TDR but don't post much, if at all, but I'm sure we will hear their name's more often.

Also said above, the carnage was very popular on Friday night, several trucks broke when the sled operator dropped the hammer at end of the track, the name of the sled was "Iron Man", and for good reason. Most were fixed by Saturday, where the track was much better, and alot less breakage. I did get good video (" I" think its good) both days of the pulls, unfortunatly, I have no way of posting it on here, onnacounta', I'm not very puter freindy, and I'm dial-up connected. As soon as a can get someone who is able to do this, ya'll will see it, that is if you want to.

Jim Fuller broke on Friday night, (pinion, clean off), he couldnt get it fixed over the weekend, so he pulled the remainder of the broke pinion out of the diff, sealed it up, and drove home in front wheel drive, all 1800 miles worth. Good luck to Jim on his way home, I hope everything works out on the loooooooong drive.

I met many, many, people. It's nice to put face's with names, everybody was great, I had a absolut great time!! Thanks Scheid's, for one hellava show!!! And a great pull by everyone involved!! I can't wait for the next one! (hopefully I'll have a clutch by then)

Later, Rob

BTW, Mean Gene also broke on Friday, hence the lack 'o distance.

Some idiot from souther Indiana won the manual class. He broke his clutch in practice, and kept on racing. I will hopefully get it out this weekend and figure out whats wrong.

Wayne,

Good job on winning at Scheids!

The sled pulls:

Larry Crawford's performance was outstanding in every pull!!

And he is using a 24 VALVE!!

Scheids truck sounded like a pulling tractor, and seemed to have pulled the sled down the track at about 40mph or so.

It got cheers from the crowd, and alot of:--)

Great times!!

Schieds Report for those like me who could not attend...

Since I was not in attendence due to work constraints,I like many others, try to rely on phone conversations, email and this site to get the real story of a big event like this,,This is a complete report sent to me tonite for all the members here to read and I will post it because there are those who wish to know some of the Scheids deal and its happenings,,I'll not answer any questions or post again on this, take it for what its worth... ... ...

Track from hell would be an understatement. After pulling 100 pro tractors, it was concrete, and rough. The Mitchell trucks took a beating that night.

Kent had the perfect set up for that track, itty bitty tires that spun free. He had an awesome pull.

Scheid needed that win after all these years of being dominated by Ohio trucks.

All the Mitchell trucks were set up to hook and dig, including mine. 100% wrong setup for that night. Mitchell had a bad case of the hops, and never could get the power to the ground--Friday night.

I threw off 600 pounds of weight, dropped a gear, babied it, and STILL broke! The FREAKS from chat watched my truck for the night, until I came back with a trailer, Thanks guys! (I could have swore I had TWO turbos when I left... ... )

Saturday night, most of the Mitchell trucks were repaired, and pulling again.

The new Sled Pulling King title HAS to go to Larry Crawford. Third place Friday, behind a Cheating drug running Ford, and Dale Factors truck piloted by Smoking Dave, and TWO FIRST places on Saturday!

What was funny, is he blew out one of his good BFGs, and had to put a set of little diggers on. He smoked everybody, then nailed the 8000 dually class with the same set up! Keep in mind he is a short bed quad cab. Mitchell clutched of course.

The open class, most all the trucks that broke the night before, broke the same parts. Dave Gresh had an awesome pull at 325. Then Dave Mitchell came up, and blew out the gate as hard as I have ever seen him pull. This was the first time I saw him come out of the hole wide open. No mercy, just mash and dump. Good Grief! He also blew parts at the end, and broke the sled, but you will have that at about 1000 horsepower.

I have already heard the rumors about his clutch not being tough enough. (They started right at the track) You know, it isn't. Not anymore, not for Dave. Many, many pulls and a few years on that clutch it was bound to fail. I am not so sure that the input shaft or the bell housing did not let go first, hard to say.

It is sad when other vendors have to IMMEDIATELY bash Dave's product trying to sell theirs. Those vendors have no idea what we are dealing with here, they are back at 600 hp range, still have trouble beating Mitchell street trucks, and some of them just watch from far away... ...

I am still not concerned with my clutch coming apart. I have a 500 horse safety margin, and about 300 hooks!!! I thank Dave for testing his parts harder than any other vendor could possibly imagine.

Bad things about Scheids:

The HEAT.

Pulling the trucks after the tractors. Bad track and too late!

KIDS powerbraking and blowing up and down the streets at the event, inside the fairgrounds. You guys know who you are.

Friday and Saturday. Sunday would work much better.

Heaven Bound Sled is ... ... . well, not the best sled around, lets put it that way.

Good things:

The Scheid crew.

Vendor alley

The Pro tractors

Seeing all my buddies again.

Letting the hottest Diesel trucks in the country compete in a Diesel friendly environment.

Shocking things:

Duramaxes pulling, and doing well. !!!!!

Sled Puller

Hope this sheds some light on the event for those who could not make it,,Sounds like we missed a tremendous event... ... Andy

Well I guess that remark I made looked stupid, BUT Johnboy failed to mention that Dave's clutch let go!

Man if anybody has THAT on tape I'LL PAY postage to have it sent to me so I can watch it/dub it/ and I'LL PAY to send it back to ya!!

Scott,

Are you going to pull this weekend???

Tampico right?

You need bigger injectors, and white smoke at idle would be nice coming out of those stacks!!

:D

Dave's clutch did NOT let go on Friday night... it was a fair pull for both trucks. And for the record, Kent (Scheid) went 317 feet, not just 306. It's too bad he didn't pull on Saturday night... I would have liked to have seen that. He might have pulled that thing 375 feet

John

Two people at the track said Kent burned a piston, so he did not pull Saturday night. Secondhand info, though, how reliable is that?  Anybody know the straight scoop on that?
