Total adjustable boost.... How?

.022" DVs

Just wanted to see what the risk of possibly purchasing a programer like a edge comp or superchip programmer from a seller on ebay. Once some of these are installed in a truck are they only able to be used for that one truck or can they be possibly be installed in a second truck.

Thanks

CH

Well with a programmer usually if the owning vehicle is flashed back to stock then the programmer is then free to be used on another vehicle.

With an Edge box it can be used on any vehicle at any time since it operates independently of the vehicle.

Bought My TST, EZ edge, & BD DL off ebay.

The TST was used and had no problems with it. It is also not vin locked.

Most manufactures will assist with a un vin locking of a progamer if you give them a call.

Thanks for the heads up Bob,I have noticed more than a few signatures on here that claim to be shops that are asking very basic questions too.

Bob

If you look at edge's website and Superchips website anyone who sells thier products on eBay is not an authorized dealer and they will not warranty any products bought from any company that sells thier stuff on eBay. The companies that sell on eBay are pulling the serial # stickers off so you can not trace who they bought it from. Here is a link to edge's website where it says that.

http://www.edgeproducts.com/dealer_locator.php

Here is the link for Suoerchips. It is in the first paragraph.

I asked this question of an un named Ebay seller:... ... ..... "Are you an authorized dealer for Smarty. If I have to send in in for repair, I know some copmany's won't warrant product that was bought on Ebay?

Also do you have the Smarty in stock?"

Their answer ... ... ... "Yes. We are an authorized dealer for the Smarty Programmers. At *******, wether on Ebay, Our Shop, or over the phone, we warranty our products. If you have a problem with it, send it back, and we will get you taken care of.

We do have the Smarty's in Stock ready to ship.

Thank you for your question! If you have any other questions or concerns please contacts us!

Thank you!"

Makes you think maybe if buying new, you should buy from a recognized dealer!!!

Yikes, thats no good. Maybe is he getting them second hand from another seller?

He must be, that or he is just taking the money and running. Either way, big no no. Problem here is the reputable dealers get stuck with all the problems after the crooks get shut down. Edge is a perfect example. I had 3 different guys in 1 week call me having purchased from some Ebay seller and having warranty needs. They call the seller but can never get anyone, so they call a known dealer for help. Plus, the Ebay seller know they are wrong and openly lie to make the sales. Bad news.

I got extremely lucky. I bought my first comp on ebay, worked for ALOMST a week. Went to send it back, NO REPLYS. Being that Edge has outstanding customer service they warrantied the product. They took the time to explain why they shouldnt have, but did it anyways, because it was before such and such date.

My experience. Buy from those that support us here at TDR! May not be the cheapest, but they have been and will be here for YEARS to come. Plus, how crappy is it to ask a vendor 10 million questions about a product, then go buy it somewhere else because you saves $15. You didnt skimp when you bought your truck, you went with the best. Your upgrades should be no different. ;)

Personally, Im a new era diesel fan, they are a member here. There are vendors here that can take care of virtually anything we need. Bob Wagner is a prime example. Good product, service, and customer experience. NO BS!

If you buy USED off eBay you know its a buyer beware type of sale.

I have been burnt before and I am sure that all buyer off eBay have been.

I have been fortunate that I have never purchased anything for the truck that has been a problem.

I agree buying from Vendors like Bob Wagner is a dream. . he knows the product and can give you the info you need... I will continue to buy from BOB...

I will also continue to shop for SOME stuff on eBay!

Hey I have been wanting to buy the PPE hot Xcellerator. On ebay Hot xccellerator that gives you 300HP and 470 lb ft of torque at the flywheel max goes for like high $600 to Mid $700. where as PPE and ATS sell the supposedly same tuner for over $900. So I have been leaning towards buying it on ebay but now that I see this it makes me wonder if they are taking the regular PPE xccellerator for the dodges and changing the labels on it and posting it as a hot xccellerator then raising the pirce so that it is above the price of the regular xccellerator by over $100.

End Result: I will be giving ATS a call when I come up with $900 and some pocket change and buy the PPE Hot Xccellerator directly from them.

Oh and not to mention I bought a used Banks 6 Gun With speed loader option on ebay with gauge pod and dynafact gauges. the gauge pod was a heap of junk with a crappy house screw that was so obvious and looked bad in my truck. then the wiring was all hacked up to the gauges. I was really disapointed and really never want to buy any used truck parts for my truck off ebay, unless it is a spare 11. 5 or 9. 5 axle assemblies that I can modify and swap at the track the night before the sled pull as part of my race setup.

End Result: I will be giving ATS a call when I come up with $900 and some pocket change and buy the PPE Hot Xccellerator directly from them.

we have a local nmtdr member, NWTdiesel who lives right next to ATS. He is an authorized PPE dealer, and usually gives pretty good prices to TDR members. He feels that if he helps out a TDR member, they will hopefully come back for him for business in the future.

I am just pointing this out, because sometimes money can be saved legitly, just because someone is helping out fellow TDR members... .

But I totally agree with not buying from EBay. It bugs the crap out of me when people come on here, learn all kinds of info about plates, boxes, etc, and then instead of supporting the people that educated them they get something off Ebay from someone who probably doesnt even know how to install what they sell

oh well,

my . 02.

I agree with most of the guys on here. The ebay market has driven the price down, but I can see why people use it. We gamble every day. This is just a gamble too. You have to ask yourself is it worth the gamble. I try to support some of the people I get my stuff from, cause I use their advice. Some items though they just are too expensive on. So as always buyer beware.

I constantly gamble daily. whether its speeding not knowing if a cop has a radar just around the corner. To drag racing thinking my brakes are gonna stop me (anything can happen when you least expect it and I believe there is a saying that says "expect the unexpected"). Or even when I go to a resturant I am gambling that I don't get food poisoning. even Nascar teams gamble at the track when they make their calls whether to pit or or stay out. If you think about it humans gamble in almost everything they do. Now the odds that something could happen is the variable in each situation. We need to consider the odds when we spend our hard earned money because it could come back to haunt us. I have learned to deal with the people you trust that have a good reputation when I spend my money but I still do gamble not caring the odds at times. It is worth that extra penny to deal with a big brand name company or that small shop who has a reputation to keep so they can feed their familys.

If you have ever used ebay you may find that it is more a hassle to leave neutral or negative feedback and they make it that way so that you almost have to leave positive feedback. Ebay makes it this way cause if a seller or a buyer recieves negative feedback their is less of a chance that someone will complete a future sale. No complete sale means less potential profit for ebay cuz after all they do get a percentage of the sale price. also if you notice people just bull**** the feedback in the first place.

You can thank all the people on the internet giving away products and not giving any support, whether it be on Ebay or not, for pricing policies. Most manufacturers have started to adopt pricing policies such as MAP (Minimum Advertised Price), and the best of all MVP. If you haven't heard yet, you will find this very interesting. It basically boils down to, MSD owns Edge, Racepak, Superchips, and MSD Fuel Injection, and they have adopted a new pricing policy. If you want to be a dealer with them, you have to follow it. It is different from MAP, in that if you sell below their MVP pricing you will loose your ability to sell their products indefinately. In the past you just couldn't Advertise pricing below their MAP. Now, if a customer sends one of their products in for warranty and includes a receipt that is dated after April 1, 2007 for any amount below their MVP pricing, you will immediately loose you dealer status.

I am not necessarily totally against this, but it does affect my pricing. I have been selling very reasonably for quite some time and doing very well. The new pricing is about 15% above my current pricing and will not be easy to explain to my customers.

I guess the bottom line is, manufacturers are going to start making dealers accountable for what they sell. We will have to ensure we extend excellent service to our customers in order to seperate ourselves from the next guy because we will all have the same price. In the meantime I guess we will have to install them free in order to help close the gap between the old pricing and the new! I would especially like to thank all the guys out there selling products for pennies over what they pay for it and offering no support and no warranty! Gotta love 'em! Just my 2 cents. Jeremy.

I see Mads has placed a statement on their website regarding ebay sellers/purchasers of Smarty.

Basically, if you buy from anyone on ebay, since no one on ebay is authorized as a distributor, you'll have to send your Smarty to Italy for repairs versus a stateside dealer.

Wonder if there's an allowance for those who purchased prior to announcement of this policy?

I think the moral here is that the cheapest way is rarely the best way. As a retailer, what am I selling? I am selling the product, yes, but I am also selling a promise, to serve the customer and any issues the customer may have. Now, EBAY sellers are selling the product, no service, no support, just the product.

Yes as the previous poster stated very well put. I rely on echo power hand tools in my landscaping business, home depot sells them, but when i need a part or repair under warranty ?? I buy my echo tools from my implement dealer and when something breaks I normally take the tool in, and they install the part normally for free or repair/supply the part if under warranty.
