Is this the best location in TDR Forums to discuss 3.0L EcoDiesels in Jeeps? Just got a new 2021 Wrangler Rubicon with EcoDiesel and 8 speed. Long time member of TDR with Ram / Cummins, but new to the EcoDiesel. I believe this is the new for 2020 3rd generation motor. Looking forward to following it and learning it's issues and maintenance. It will be mostly a highway vehicle, so I should get some miles on it to evaluate better, only had it a couple weeks now, with only 1000 miles so far. Impressive to drive.

I realize it is detuned from Ram 1500 as I believe the truck gets 480TQ, and the Jeep only gets 442TQ.

I think it’ll be a great rig! I’d assume this is the best place to post on here. Hopefully they will sell well and become more popular.

The reputation of this engine in all Jeep applications is stellar - only in the RAM it screws up.

It's funny you mention this. I've been driving the Gen 3/8HP75 combo in the Ram for 8 months now. A couple of weeks ago I did a YouTube review on the Jeep Gladiator with the Gen 3/8HP75 combo. The thing that shocked me is that the Jeep felt WAYYY better. Very little lag, very good response, strong torque. Ran great, very linear and predictable. I love it. By contrast, the Ram is horrible. Absolutely horrible. Lots of lag, not necessarily turbo lag but just general lag and laziness in the response.

Consider that the Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel has a curb weight that is within 200 lbs. of the Ram, and on paper has 38 lb/ft less torque. Yet, it feels stronger, drives better, and has better features (such as manual shifting and ESS for fuel saving).

The main thought that I came away with is that clearly Jeep and Ram need to start sharing notes.

Picture please! :D
Oh, and a hand calculated fuel consumption report too. :D:D

Seriously I posted my hand calc mileages and pics, but now the post is gone? Don't know where it went.

At 1265 miles, getting 22.5 MPG from dealer fill up, then 25.6, 23.5 off road trip, 25.0 all on the factory 33" Falcon Wildpeak M/T tires. The Rubicon window sticker states 26 highway, but the other models on all-season tires are posted at 27 MPG highway with same gears.

Just put on set of Michelin Defender highway M/S tires, at 32.1" diameter so speedo is off now by 1.5 at 70 MPH and with the 3.73 gears expect to get 27 MPG once she's broke in.

See attached images if it works this time.

I've noticed this as well. My daily driver since December of 14 has been an Ecodiesel Grand Cherokee. Some of this I think just comes down to sheer numbers sold of Ecodiesels sold in each platform and perhaps the way in which the vehicles get used, but I also know there are some subtle differences in packaging... EGR, fuel filters e.t.c. It makes me wonder what causes the apparent reliability gap between the 2.

In either case the current Ecodiesel generation I would expect to be significantly more reliable. For years I've planned to purchase just the combination you have, if it were to become available. I have to admit that now that it's here I'm sitting on the fence to see if it does truly turn out to be more reliable as expected.

Image of badge is my user image. EcoDiesel on a single badge on LH Rear corner, under brake light. Plan to de-badge it in the spring once it is warm enough to do so. Even thought about buying "3.0" and "Turbo" badges off E-bay to put in its place to really confuse others at the traffic lights. I am really interest to know what this can do 0-60 MPH as it seems pretty fast, as you would expect for 442 Tq.....

4K miles so far, average 25.6 MPG (24.5 on highway 80+, 29.1 on Sunday drive). About ready to get my first oil change, even though it's still 60%, but just not driving it much until Covid allows more business travel.
