Custom Tuning for Quad Adrenaline

I am in the process of a transmission rebuild (DTT), gauge install, 4 inch Silverline exhaust. I like the idea of an Edge Comp because it has 5 levels which are selectable in cab on the fly. I also like the idea of the Smarty because there is nothing to install, but it is not on the fly adjustable. I would really appreciate any pros & cons you may like to share. Thanks in advance.

have smarty, not impressed with how it messes with the auto transmission, now running a fully build Goerend, still can notice a difference in the way the new transmission shifts with smarty on/off
Customer service from Bob is fantastic, Support from the programmer(s) on fixing some of these issues has been NILL.
It does have awsome bottom end, but seems to have a flat spot after shifting into 4th unless full throttle, really messes with the shifting on a auto transmission.
Pete

never tried the edge to give you a fair comparison..... smarty for me and not looking for anything else.

there are lots of members on here, quite possible someone in your area to give you the smarty smile:)

Hey Pete,

How would you describe the interference with transmission? That kind of concerns me. Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to more info. Tom

Comp for power and on-the-fly settings, but I love the Smarty for the tire correction and code reading/clearing. Smarty settings with my 6-speed and FE clutch is kinda finicky around town, but you got an auto!

I have both, Just for power I would go for the Edge (wire tapped of course!). I mainly use the smarty with the fuel saver program and I like the theft program also. It is aggrevating when you see the sparse ford who wants to "play" and you cant switch the smarty to kill from fuel saver mode. But those are few and far between so it mainly lives in fuel saver mode.

I too have a both a Smarty and a Drag Comp. Like other have said, the comp is really nice for "on the fly" adjustments. Its nice to add the extra HP in a hurry. The Smarty is great for low end grunt, code reading and tire size correction. It, along with the comp, have messed with my transmission a bit and I am not sure why.

The transmission seems to surge in some gears, it has a delayed overdrive shift. Still waiting for new smarty software to try and fix the problem. I am hoping the Revo for my smarty will allow me to solve the problems.

I have read good things about the new Quadzilla box???

I have both as well... I prefer the COMP!! BUt the styack is bad *****!

The Smarty does make the tarnny shift oddly to, hard for my small brain to put into words though... with the Samrty on higher settings the transmission has a hhrd time finding the correct gear. I guess JR2 put it better.

Also the Edge Juice provides you with gauges, saving you a bit of money.

I had both for a while - have had the Edge Comp almost as long as the truck, which I bought new. Can't beat the Comp for instantly adjustable, on the fly power level settings. Had issues with the Smarty in my normal use and expectations, and eventually sold it, no regrets.

The Edge really does all I want or need - but if starting over, would look hard at the Quad Adrenaline line...

Good luck.

I have run the edge comp, the smarty, TST(reg and comp), quad adrenaline, and have to say ALL were what they were supposed to be.

That said, They ALL also have quirks. The smarty's touchy throttle and the way it fuels is hard on trannys and necks and cannot be switched "on the fly" but is fun for a while or as a stacker.

The TST box is for fuel only and works best stacked with a timing box. it does what it claims, but it also shudders REALLY bad on high levels when you lift the throttle.

The edge comp is a fuel/timing box and is a decent stand alone unit, but this one has some quality issues at times.

ALL the above will also need gauges added to them.

The edge juice seems to be a decent unit it has guages and all features of the comp plus a few more. most owners seem happy, though I myself have never owned one.

The Quad Adrenaline is the latest addition to the VP44 truck scene and has guages and on the fly adjustment as well as fuel saver settings. It also has many downloadable programs to choose from and taylor to your needs. It also has had problems with the fuel guage sender and some teething issues as it is a new product but features and details ARE still being added and updated and it seems to be getting better all the time.

Hope this helps :)

P. S. I am now running the Quad and LOVE it!;)

Not trying to skew your thought process here at all, just trying to add some more food for your thought...

On 2nd Gen 24v trucks for power and ease of adjustibility there is no box better than a TST PM3 comp version. You add the remote and it has all the adjustability you could ever want. Stack a Edge EZ on it for timing and it really helps.

Not saying any of the other boxes are bad choices, but, for all out power and simplicity of use,the TST comp will out perform the others... ..... Andy

NOT even close! and I have dyno sheets to prove it! Both a drag comp AND Quad Adrenaline will out perform it, and neither of those will shake the truck apart while slowing down! sorry.

Agree 100%. As for the Comp or Smarty, Comp without a doubt. Dont waste your money on a Smarty. It was the most expensive let down ive bought. They keep saying REVO updates will be released soon, but when you ask what you can expect from the updates you get SILENCE!

I really appreciate all the respones. I decided to buy the Edge Comp. I hope to install this weekend. I am a little concerned about tapping the pump wire. Thanks to all who posted.

WAY back when I first bought my own Comp, VP-44's were dropping like flies, no one knew for sure how much blame to place upon the Comp, so I didn't tap my pump wire either...

For about 3 days... :-laf:-laf

Eventually, my first VP-44 did start tossing codes - but by then, we knew the Comp might cause one to fail or toss codes early - but no proof that the Comp actually destroys an otherwise healthy pump, just reveals the impending weakness and failure of an already bad one - in my case, the pump failure was due to a design defect caused by Bosch using a brass cylinder liner in the advance section of the pump - it would have failed no matter WHAT I did or did not do!

I tapped the replacement VP-44 before it was even installed on the truck - no problems yet on the rebuilt one...

I have run a few boxes myself. Best driving/ performing to date is the old Drag Comp. I have a Juice in now and it works great as well.

I ran the TST/ Catcher (I know I am dating myself) and the TST/ Smarty stack. Fueled very hard down low, ran out of lungs early. Dyno and track numbers not as good as the drag comp. TST defuel shudder was violent. Cruise useless on any level of Smarty. Also trans shifted about 10MPH higher into lockup. I have been told I have the only truck to exhibit this. But I hear updates are coming soon. This is all with big injectors. All the issues were lessened by smaller sticks.

EZ/TST. Actually a pretty good stack. Very reliable TST and predictable EZ. Good combo and fun to drive. Still not the power of the drag comp alone.

Recently ran the Adrenaline. Took 3 weeks to try all the programs. Great product support for the VP guys. Tried it stacked with Smarty, hated it. Great alone. Power feels as good or better than Edge. Never had it to the dyno, maybe the next few weeks.

Redline. WOW! That is all.

And there's been other variations, combos and boxes as well. Just a few notable ones.

Dave
