Here's a repost from a member over on the Cumminsforum some of you may not have seen or be aware of:

Well Gang I found a bug in the Edge Comp box... What is happen is other lower levels affecting the power to adjoining levels. Let me tell you what is happening... Set level 4 for Sub level of 1 (4x1). Then Switch to 5x5 and the power is reduced. No smoke and little acceleration. But if you bump level 4 back up to sub level 4 or 5 then the smoke rolls good on level 5x5. What I'm asking is someone else to confirm this finding with there Edge Comp by setting up the same parameters and test for me. I think this is every strange... I wanted to setup on 4x1 for running around and be able to jump to 5x5 for passing power or playtime without changing a bunch but it don't work the 4x1 setting is affecting the 5x5 setting...

This has as of moments ago been confirmed by at least 3 other Comp owners...

mine did the same thing, sent it in, they fixed it fo free, and had it upgraded to a drag. works great.

I'd heard other random complaints concerning the version 8 firmware, but this is the first repeatable and specific issue I am aware of - I'll have to test my own older version (7. 25 I think?) to see what it does under the same conditions...

How do we know which version we have? I bought mine around Aug/Sept of '04.

Its a silver sticker on tha back side. it should say ver. 8. 0

Give edge a call and tell them whats going on with your comp. they will ask for all the info on the comp and if its still under warrenty then they can fix it fo free.

Actually, this is nothing new. My comp has been on all sub level 5's for years, there is a reason why We got the story straight from edge many many moons ago when they were a little more open to us crazy mad bombers. You know before they were "mainstream" I have heard reports from some guys that their trucks dyno higher on sub level 4. Perhaps their comps work "correctly"

mine did the same thing, did the same as my brother (motero) sent it in and i should have my drag comp back tomorrow or monday!! cant wait!!! i never that DDIIIs and a SPS62 could be so boring, i miss my comp!

WELL, so far my older version 7 firmware is doing great - I'm surprised to have not heard more about so repeatable a problem than what's now surfacing with the later version 8 units.

Same problem here & Damn what a difference in performance when level 4 is set at 4x5... . its a different truck. Version 8 Drag comp too.

Just went out and looked sure is cold out there, yes it is version 8. 0 I just had it back at edge last year for drag upgrade and to repair one led they said they checked it out good and all is well.

Yepper!... . seems to be a version 8. 0 problem... ... I haven't heard of other versions doing this. Does your box have problems with it not working in the winter when you first start the truck? Mine don't work until the box warms up.

Just checked mine. Its a version 8 also. I will have to try this when I drive it again. I was going to send it in this week for the drag upgrade maybe I will need repair also. I rarely run past level 3X3,4X4 ocasionally and 5X5 only when I sled pulled this summer. Never tried 5X5 just driving around. On my set up with smarty on level 4, comp 2X2 daily driving can get me in enough trouble when the silver 62 spools.

Try it out... . I ran smarty 8 & 5x5 drag comp was unreal.

Mine doesent come on till it gets warm also, I just cycle the key a couple times to get it to turn on. then it works fine.

What version is your comp? Is this also a problem with version 8. 0?
