Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Anti Freeze

Just installed on the truck. I noticed a SLIGHTLY rougher idle than the 275's, and the truck will almost stall sometimes when put into drive cold, or when the AC is first turned on.

They don't appear to be leaking and run strong, but when the above actions happen, truck RPM drops quickly and almost too quickly for the ECM to catch up and keep the truck running.

The RPM excursions/lope are stable enough NOT to be seen on the tach, but I can tell (hear/feel the difference).

Anyone else have experience, and is it normal?

By the way, with the 275's, the RPM's would drag down while doing the above but the truck would not stall. Pretty close to stalling at times.

I just had a new trans w/ 5 Star converter installed. The converter is very tight and almost stalls the first time I drop it into drive when cold.

First off, make sure your truck has had the TSB done for cold weather stalling (call DTT if you don't have the TSB #).

Second, what did you set the pop-off pressure at for the injectors?

I had edge jammer 3s 100hp injectors in my truck and they idled rougher. I put them in when I had a stock/slushy trany, it didn't do anything out of the norm when I dropped it into gear than. But shorty after all that power deep fried my trany and I got a suncoast unit with a lower stall 3 disc converter, once that was in it would stall the truck when cold. I parked it in my grandparents yard once and I guess from the extra resistance of it being in grass killed the truck 6-8 times trying to get out of it. I finally had to neutral drop it to get it to stay running. I think its normal for those cheaper injectors, I sold them and install some stock HO injectors and I noticed right away how much smoother the idle was. The jammers idle rough in the truck I sold them too.

Again, what was the pop pressure set to?

My Edge Jammer 3's (full injectors) idle possibily better than stock and they were pop tested before install. I am also making record economy with them (-:

Keith brings up a good point.

But from my experience, cold temps and multi disc convertors make this happen more often than not. By starting the truck and running in Neutral for a minute or so will usually stop this from happening.

I had the same issue with a triple disc I ran. Did it with stock and 2 sets of F1 injectors. Changed convertor, problem went away. Again, idleing a minuite or so before heading out solved the problem.

My theory is that the clutches gain bite when the fluid partially drains back. Just like the clutches on a street bike. By starting and allowing to idle, the fluid is forced back into the convertor and the discs can once again slip. Also, the TC temp climbs pretty fast.

Just something to consider.

Jammer 3's here also and as with Johns, mine idle possibly smoother than stock, although I did NOT pop test mine. The nozzles were installed on the original injector bodies with 118,000 miles. I am also seeing excellent fuel economy since I installed them earlier this month. (18+ mpg hand calculated)

My Jammer's Idle Rougher too. Not to the point you can really feel it but you can hear it. I don't know what the pop off pressures are but I know that they were tested when they were installed on my injector bodies. I installed the inectors myself.

I have a 5600 but I have noticed that when I'm slipping the clutch to get it moving the engine gets a good lope to it which it didn't have before under the same conditions. If it did it's more pronounced now than it was and I just didn't notice it before.

It's more irritating than anything but I have a problem when going down hills in cruise control. I can really feel the engine surge as it trys to maintain speed. It is bad enough that I can see it on the tach and it's accompanied by a slight jerking.

Mileage hasn't changed much. I still get 18-20 if I drive 57 and don't rod it. Which is a challenge considering how much more fun to drive it is.

I went the absolute cheapest way (not the greatest way). I bought some nozzles cheap off line and installed them my self, never had them pop tested. They worked good and made more power, but idled a little rougher and once the new converter was in it would stall. My next injectors are going to be full DDP 4s, pop tested and all.

I Just Installed My Jammers Stage 3's And I Got A Rebuilt Auto transmission 4,000 Miles Ago And I Was Woundering If I Need To Worry About It??

What I did...

I just installed the Jammer 3 tips on stock (less than 20,000 miles) injectors... didn't get them pop tested. I figured I would try it, and if need be, go back to the 275's and get them tested.

The torque converter is tight, but not extreme. Slightly tighter than stock. I can nearly stall the engine when I kick on the Horton fan (when cold). The Horton would drag down the 275's pretty heavily when cold also, but it seems it is more finicky with the Jammer 3's. Just wondering what is happening to other people.

A pop test is to check at what pressure your injectors will begin to inject fuel or "pop". They can also check for leaks at the same time. It's definetly a good idea to have your injectors pop tested. Uneven pop off pressures can cause your truck to idle rough(er) lose power, and fuel economy because not all the cylinders are receiving the same amount of fuel.

Did you have your tips installed on your injector bodies by a shop? Or did you do it yourself? Or buy injectors with the tips already on them? Any good Shop would have pop tested them when they installed them. IF you did it yourself then you can take em out and into a diesel shop. LIke Fishin Guide said, Most diesel shops can do it. If the Performance shop specializes in Diesel then they should be able to do it as well.

That Works On The Instructions They Say Nothing About Simming The Injectors???? Do I Need To Worry Or Just Do It And See What Happends
