I have a Edge set up, on an '06 that was installed by the PO. My question is what exactly does it do? Timing, pressure or what? My apologies if it is a silly question, but I haven't found much in a search. Lots on the Smarty.

Thanks

Dave,

Go over to the EDGE Products site and open up one of their installation links:

Edge Products| Installation

Scroll down to the Ddoge stuff and look for the Cummins Common Rail 325hp/600 or 610 torque listing and open one of their files up. You can print out the file for later reference.

Do you have the Edge EZ or Juice or Juice with the Attitude Monitor? Just open and print out what you need and do a bit of reading. It should bring you up to speed.

My 2004. 5 325hp/600ft lb torque Juice w/Attitude monitor just did the timing duration portion. I had an Edge EZ that added the rail pressure. Although I took those off and am now just running the Smarty POD.

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks Bill. I will read that. I have the Attitude Monitor and the five levels. I don't have the Hot set up. I have done reading using search. I may not be coming up with a good search title, but have not found anybody talking about what the box does... hence my question.

Thanks again,

Dave

If I remember correctly my Juice / Atttitude had 5 levels with about 120hp on the top level. When I had EDGE Products do the "Hot" it went up to 180hp. My Juice / Atttiude version only did timing and duration, but I had the EDGE EZ before I got my Juice and I just added it to the mix. The EZ was the version with the in the cab 3 position switch rated at 20, 40, and 60 hp from a rail pressure increase. The combo worked well with the Juice on the highest and the EZ set to the middle postion.

I think I was draining the rail pressure too much with the EZ on the highest level. It seems everyone now warns against raising the rail pressure because of cracked injectors or injector tips. Some of the Juice models do add rail pressure so I suggust you study up on that.

All this was when I had the Industrial Injection SPS66 (Super Phat Shaft) turbo with the appropriate intake and exhaust mods. It did have the top end horsepower but it sure smoked on the higher settings. I ended up breaking the input shaft on my 2nd ATS transmission, (long story however), and I was ready to trade the truck and I put it all back to stock because the dealers around here weren't wild about a trade with a modded truck. (Cliff notes --->The early 6. 7's had some issues so I never traded and I still have my truck. )

--

I got the Smarty early on and later upgraded it to the POD version. Since I went back to nearly stock, (now just the cat back MBRP exhaust), the Smarty seemed to work great and give me better mileage using the odd numbered timing software level versions, so I have stuck with it.

Jeff Garmon, (Garmon Diesel Performance in Griffin, GA. ), cautioned me about running two different power adders both adding timing as it could lead to unpleasant things happening to the engine. BY the way, Jeff is a great guy and rebuilt my transmission this last time and it's been great ever since. I highly recommend his shop if you are in or near Georgia.

I eventually switched back over the just the Smarty on Jeff's suggestion. Heck, I still have all the performance stuff boxed up and tried to sell it in the classifieds here but didn't have any takers. I'm still pondering a truck change, as I don't need the diesel for what limited towing I do now and I may try selling the truck myself with or without all the performance stuff.

Anyway back to your inquiry. The Juice / Attitude did perform very well in my case. It was smoky with the bigger SPS66 turbo but had a great "top end". I think it runs a bit hot on the EGT's with a stock turbo and probably provides too much fuel unless your turbo has been changed. I really enjoyed the ability to switch levels on the fly but the Smarty won me over with POD version and a bit better mileage.
