I WANT MORE!!!

This bump where the bug bit me is growing out of control.

What I want to know is what should I do???

I would like to be in the 400 hp range or so, more if possible.

I was thinking OFE, Comp or Drag Comp or Marco's, injectors (not sure which ones), and a different turbo or possibly two of them (again, not sure what).

I would like to be as cost efficient as possible but I don't want garbage. It has to be very driveable, I don't want to have to watch the pyro gauge like a hawk all of the time.

Fuel economy has to stay close to the same or improve.

(60% city, 30% highway, 10% towing, 0% driving sensibly)

Something along the line of Marco's, Don M's Mach2 F1's, a good turbo-to-tailpipe 4 inch exhaust, BHAF or similar intake improvement, and the next step up in turbo should get you 400+ hp, and still be totally driveable as far as towing/EGT is concerned.

Watch out for going overboard with BIG injectors if EGT is an issue - it's real easy to overfuel, and run EGT out of sight...

I had a edge comp drag for 25,000 miles before I got a MAD ecm, If you look at my truck sig look to see witch one is missing :) The comp didn't play well with the mad ecm I had. so I sold it.

MAD ECM all the way if you still need more power, just buy a fueling box and you will never have to look back.

Gary was dead on with the injectors... . F1 injectors are the best ones i have had to date.

The one thing I would add and keep in mind I don't want to miss lead you. I have had to go back and buy bigger injectors because I thought #x(fill in size) injector would be enough only to find out a year later I should have got a much bigger injector. The only problem is you may cross the point of not enough fuel to the VP pump, or to much power to the stock trans, or the biggest problem not enough air  witch all cost money to fix. If you do your research and draw up a a plan and can stick to it. You will know what mod you will be saving up for next on your list. The problem I had is I always just wanted a little more. I should have just built a monster from the start and been done with it.

a mad ecm and F1 4. 8 injectors with a htt puller66 turbo made 450 hp and 950tq is very street able, it will make lots of smoke if not very careful. But I can easily pull my little 6,ooo lb tractor with not much trouble of egt running way as long as I doing the speed limit.

SPEED LIMIT? :p :p

Who goes for 400+ HP, and THEN wants to stick at the speed limit? :-laf :-laf

Shucks, with my setup, I usually (carefully!) run above the speed limit UPHILL, towing our 5th wheel! :p

Gotta keep those Ford's and GM's in their proper place! :-laf :-laf

:D Gary shhhhhh, I am going to tell the police that something is wrong with my truck thats why is smokes so bad. maybe I can tell them I had to get a run at the hill in order to keep it up to speed. I just hope they clock me at the bottom of the hill because if they catch me at the top    All bets are off time for a new story :-laf

The Mad ECM does not add any HP

Done alot of reading on this subject,no where does it claim to add horsepower or torque,it claims to make your truck more driveable, but it also makes more smoke. It also does not increase the rpm defueling. You would need a fueling box such as the edge drag comp. to raise your rpm limit any way It also does not make any milage claims. I have not driven a truck with a Mad ECM. To all the guys running them,If I am wrong please correct me. My suggestion is when you start your modifications do them one at a time,to give you time to evaluate what you've done. So you can also figure out what your next step should be.

The Catcher does SEEM to make more power, but I haven't dyno'd my truck, so I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is it drives a whole lot better than it did without it, tows awesome, which is what I use the truck for mostly

Merv,

Some where among all the pages of the CaTCHER thread , Bob Wagner dynoed his truck and he said he got ( if memory serves me correctly) between 60-65 HP on his modded truck. You would have to see his sig to know what all he has done to his truck.

I just bought one not long ago and plan to dyno at Kauffmans at the next event, in a few weeks. I do have a baseline set of numbers to compare it to, so I want to know myself where my truck is at. Curiousity... just to know for myself. If you can make it up , I will gladly take ya for a spin, shoot, I can even bring the stock ecm so you get a comparison if you like. :)

I do know one thing, the truck is more fun to drive now... :D

All the posts on this subject,I have yet to see a legitamate post on a torque curve or a hp curve with all things being the same except the ECM. Sorry to say I won't be at Kauffmans on the 30th. There is a DHRA race scheduled for the 30th at MIR. I'm sure you would shut up a lot of nay sayers if you would do a before and after dyno with and without the Mad ECM. I would really be interested in the torque curve.

I was definitely planning on doing my mods one at a time, unless I win the lottery. The main reason I'm doing this now is because I purchased a 72' Nova SS (true SS) for **drumroll please** $500 in close to perfect condition, with a new 350 crate and TH-400, interior was bad, but all is good now and I'm less than $700 into the car including the $500 it cost me. I'm taking it to Rod Run in TN this weekend to sell it and expect to make my money back a few times over. BOMBS AWAY as soon as I return.

Now, as to the order in which I should add mods???

Correct me if I'm wrong:

-Clutch (OFE probably)

-ECM

-Turbo then Injectors

-Injectors then Turbo

Am I forgetting anything?

Thanks again,

R. J.

Merv, Here is a dyno chart with the stock ecm and then the CaTCHER ecm, same dyno same day

Here is my current set up only running mach 4's and CaTCHER

try like you'll like it :-laf

I plan on dynoing at Imler Diesel Spring Fling tomorrow at Imler Diesel in Sacramento.

Unfortunately I dont have a baseline, but I'll post the results.

My truck stock was 236 Hp @ 490 Tq .

With an Edge EZ it went to 274 Hp and 690 Tq.

I am betting with the Marco ECM you will be closer to 300 Hp and 750 Tq. . That is about what I am guessing on mine and you have close the same truck as I do.

There is a thread here that someone started ( I cant find it right now ) that has mods that were done to the truck and what it dynoed at. It kinda gives you and idea for what you want to obtain and how some of the members got there. Sorry, but I cant find it now, but its here somewhere... ... .

Thankyou Mr Wagner

For contributing to this thread,I was mistaken when I stated that the catcher didn't contribute to horsepower. Bobs Bobs dyno sheet shows it does. To Git R Done thankyou for your offer to test drive the your catcher equiped truck,I will take you up on it if you make it to the Fall Brawl. :D
