MDale, I think your right!
I wondered about something like that because a few days before I noticed the clanking, I found that the struts seemed to have loosened up... (heard the top washer rattling on a rough road) This was a month or so after install.
Seemed weird it would loosen by its self, as it is a self locking nut. I also noticed I was able to tighten it down more on that side than the other... (the side that seems to be clanking on bumps. )
But... I had installed new bearing plates (they cost more than the new struts!) and everything else I could find, EXCEPT the rubber upper spring seats cause no-one had them in stock & my old ones appeared to be good!
So your probably right... . but I still think that the Monroe Senatrac might have locked up & punched thru the spring seat, or else it's just a bad strut. (I have put about 4k on the vehicle since and don't see any funny tire wear)
Anyhow got a new pair of upper spring seats sitting at home waiting for me to get a spring compressor so I can open her back up and see what went wrong.
One more thing on my list!!!!
