MDale, I think your right!

I wondered about something like that because a few days before I noticed the clanking, I found that the struts seemed to have loosened up... (heard the top washer rattling on a rough road) This was a month or so after install.

Seemed weird it would loosen by its self, as it is a self locking nut. I also noticed I was able to tighten it down more on that side than the other... (the side that seems to be clanking on bumps. )

But... I had installed new bearing plates (they cost more than the new struts!) and everything else I could find, EXCEPT the rubber upper spring seats cause no-one had them in stock & my old ones appeared to be good!

So your probably right... . but I still think that the Monroe Senatrac might have locked up & punched thru the spring seat, or else it's just a bad strut. (I have put about 4k on the vehicle since and don't see any funny tire wear)

Anyhow got a new pair of upper spring seats sitting at home waiting for me to get a spring compressor so I can open her back up and see what went wrong.

One more thing on my list!!!!

Ok, I am in need of new shocks so I am going to get a set of Bilstiens. What is the part number for those with the 2 inch coils up front. Apparently the 5100 series is the best non-resevior shock they make. Am I correct? TMTT mentioned something about 5200 series. Are these better?

Bilsteins HD 5100 Series

TDR Thread I discovered them on

I had a set of Pro Comp ES9000 shocks which were supposed to be tough. They had the following credentials:

Optional Shock boots are available in your choice of 16 colors

Designed specifically for those driving enthusiasts demanding optimum capacity for heavy loads and high-performance handling

Twin-tube, nitrogen gas-charged design for increased load capacity and high-performance ride and handling characteristics

Expanded twin-tube design increases fluid capacity by 50%

10- stage, velocity-sensitive valving delivers comfortable highway ride and outstanding off-road performance

1-3/8" nylon-banded full displacement piston head ensures strength and long-lasting durability

Large 5/8" Chrome-hardened piston rod, double-welded shock mounts, and unique Teflon rebound stop handle the most demanding driving conditions

They wore completely out @ juuust 40K worth of HIGHWAY driving. Now I have used Pro comp products including some of their top lift kits they offer and quality is top notch. I expected the same with their pioneering shock technology. Well the all mighty 1175 pound cummins beat them up good!!

After talking to Bilstein direct I found out that theese shocks are valved specificly for our front heavy trucks and are not valved as a "One valve fits all" kind of scenereo. So here I am 20K deep with them and I still think they ride as good as day one.

I see nothing on their website that differentiates between gas and diesel. 500 pounds can do alot to change the way the valving reacts. Granted, maybe they are setup for the Dodge but what engine were they setup for?

I'm looking to change over to Bilstein shox, but I have the Skyjacker twin shock mounts on the front. The additional shock is a double ring mount and not ring and pin like the original. Does anyone know the part numbers for the right shocks to fit?

Cheers,

Cam

Thanks Dane, picked up a set and all I can say is WOW

These 5100 series not only feel great but look sweet too. The difference is like going from a stock Auto to a DTT (or almost equivalent). Handling, steering and plushness are all light years better then with the OEM crap. In fact, if I would have known it was going to make this much difference I would have done this years ago. Happy camper here.
