Who has had problems with their K&N Air Filter??

Turbo Poll

I want to do this as a poll, but please respond or PM me with which clutch you have.

I'm researching right now trying to decide which clutch I want to get at the first of the year. I'm really only leaning towards the SBC Street DD or the EEP because I haven't heard much about the McLeoud Dual disk, but I'm open to all suggestions and info.

Thanks.

I recieved one PM from a member who spoke of his Con OFE. Just for clearification I'm only looking at the SBC Street Dual Disk.

Thanks :D

Well, I have the South Bend FE, not the OFE. I love mine, 2+ years, ~50K miles, a little drag racing, a couple dino runs... no slippage and holds great.

Honestly, if it ever does go out on me, not sure which one I'd go with either. It would be either Peter's new double disc or the Dave Mitchell all out puller clutch though... At least if I had to chose from what is available right now.

Mark, what are your intentions with the new double disk clutch? General daily driving? Towing? Racing? Sled pulling? It's hard to make a clear vote without knowing what you'll be putting it through. Although, if you answered "yes", to all four of the styles of driving above, you know what my vote is. ;)

EEP's and Haislys dual discs are the only clutches that I know of holding up to pulling right now, but if you want to test a new one, by all means, rock and roll!

Ok everybody put there hands up !!

I am hi jacking this thread... . lol I have to make this same decision in a couple of days if I have any hope to get clutch in and pull at Scheids. I am interested in any experience with Van Haisley's Dual disc. I already know the Mitchell clutch is very proven. Does anybody think the SBC street dd is going to hold up to 5-10 pulls a year?

Thanks

Craig

P. S. You can put your hands down now

I will say this, stay away from anything that says "street" on it if you plan to drag or pull. If you are gonna pull, which I know you are, and you plan on buying from Peter, get the competition set-up. I do know that Amianthus has slipped his DD McLoed on the street without a hook on it. I have heard the Van Haisley is a great puller, but not too street friendly.

I will also add this, ANY dual disc that has unsprung hubs will make more transmission noise, and may or may not shorten the life of you transmission. BUT, if you wanna play... you gotta pay.

I voted for EEP the BEST of all worlds, but NOT the "end all" for clutches. When somebody makes one, I'll buy one, but till then, I am going with whats proven on and off the track.

I got my nomex on so fire away...

My South Bend Double Disk clutch is taking everything that I can throw at it!! I have 7 hooks on it since Muncie and it's holding and driving great. It is VERY smooth and does NOT rattle. I am still learning how to come out of the hole but think I have that figured out now. WIDE OPEN and dump the clutch. :-laf

driven everyday... . occasionally tow between 10,000-15000lbs short distances(at the very most a couple hundred miles)... . and when given the chance hook to a sled in the street class (and still be able to drive home) at the 4 or less pulls I attend a year.

My basis for looking at the Dual Disk cluthes is that if I even go with just a regular SBC clutch I tow to much on occasion (more than 8K) and would be forced to upgrade to the 13" OFE which lists for just a few hundred short of the SBC Street/EEP DD.

I just installed my TST 7 months ago... and thought it would hold up to the pull last Friday night... ITS TOAST! and I know I'm going to want to pull in the street class again someday. Also the last reason is that I want this to be the LAST! clutch I put in my truck... and I feel that with my low power levels 400HP/900TQ that a dual disk would just about hold indefinately.

And before anyone says it I won't be going with any more power bceause I just bought a PacBrake therefor I can't go to a HX40... . which only leaves me a PDR HX35 (possibly:rolleyes: ) and maybe have my pump calibrated... but those probably won't ever happen.

Hopefully this gives a clearer insight on my wants for a DD clutch.

Mark...

Here is a little quip on my quest. I'll pull no punches and tell it like it is. Drop me a PM if you want the whole story as I'll not slash and bash here...

I decided on the EEP pulling assembly. While as some say(or cry)its a noisy unit,I'll take that, knowing when I want it to hook its there. Lots of stories were told to me when I was searching for a good unit for my "show pony",my decision was made on lots of research, previous customers praise(both TDR & Non-TDR members) and knowing how much abuse personally I have seen these units take(Ever see Ol' Sleddy try to row a stick, its like a novice butcher ruining a filet). Since its install I have had to re-learn to drive it as I was used to tip toeing around, now its hard on the loud pedal as I see fit. There have been a few out here who have been educated knowing the hook is there. Hook it will, where you want it and when you want it too. :D :D :D

I tow nothing, haul nothing(other than my 6'9" 450lb carcass) and street drive my truck daily(Although I heard Sleddy is plotting a way fo me to get it all dirty). Its a daily driver which gets polished and waxed more than my hardwood floors(Most of the M-D TDR members will attest to that). I run about 15,000 miles a year, mostly short distances back and forth to work, with a occasional road trip. Most say this is way more clutch than I need,I say BUNK!!!. One to many past experiences have taught me there is NOTHING ever as too much clutch. Is it right for you?... Depends on your finances. Is it the most street friendly unit??... Maybe not, but, that is something I have learned in way to many years of the performance game, give a little-take a little. WILL IT HOOK??... . That is a question that you will not worry about,it will hook.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Its your truck and your choice, shop smart my son and stand by your decision... ... Andy
