I'm not sure the regen is completely gone. Unless you have some other device that resets the filter timers, it should perform a regen based on the filter timer. That would normally occur after driving several hours at highway speeds. The only other way is to get an active code that stops regen from occurring. Without looking them up, I believe there are about five such codes.

I have 2k miles on my setup so far and zero regen (or limp). That includes everything from stop & go to 6 hours trips to the coast & back, and hours of 4-wheeling on the ranch. The guy who gave me the spec for my DIY delete HAS seen regen twice in the last year. Both times were in exactly the same location - fourwheeling in the mountains climbing 2000ft in a very short distance. And no other instance has it happened to him.

my setup is basically a modified version of an H&S delete... . and I know there are hundreds of guys running those systems who have never seen a regen or limp mode.

So I don't know if the filter timer theory holds up..... or maybe we're just using an active code to keep regen away

Needless to say we're all still experimenting (in a way) - I'm just thankful mine works (so far)

Questions

Ok, after reading all of the posts this sounds pretty good. Is this alright to do on stock trucks like mine. I have no programmers, cold air kits, exhaust kits or anything, just bone stock. If you can give me a list of stuff in order or something to start with.

Another question about the different options for removing or blocking the EGR. I removed the butterfly in the intake horn and made plates for the top of the intake horn. Then i put the valve and crossover tube back on and left the EGR valve unpluged. I'm trying to keep a stock look and at the moment and without close inspection you cannot tell anything has been changed. Did this a couple days ago and have not seen a code yet. Is this acceptable or is there something i am missing.

Eventually you will get a rationality or performance code. It will figure out the EGR is not working.

Egr

EGR disconnected on a gas engine would cause combustion chamber temperature to sky rocket and cause detonation, eventually burning holes in pistons. EGR engines also use different EGR camshafts and timing advance. EGR gases also displace Oxygen and cause the leaner mixture to become richer. EGR gas engines can tolerate much more total spark timing than non EGR engines, therefore they run much more spark advance. Talking gasoline engines.

So, how will disconnecting the EGR affect the diesel engine? I am certain the EGR is connected with the camshaft design in some way, along with injector timing and injector on time.

I'm sure i will see a code. It's been done a couple days but haven't put many miles on. What i'm wondering though is if i will see the benefits doing it this way or do i need to remove the cooler, tube, and valve.
