I’m about to hit the 67,500 mile threshold on my truck and expecting to see the “Perform Service” message on my evic. I purchased the egr kit from Geno’s but won’t be able to perform this maintenance for at least 1 month. Will the truck go into limp mode if I don’t perform this service immediately?

Fill in your public signature please.

12 and earlier require a cleaning and 13 and newer do not. If your truck is a 13 or newer a 1/2 hour of your time is all that is needed to change the filter.

As stated your ‘14 doesn’t require an EGR cleaning at 67,500, thou the Geno’s kit is reasonably priced and a cleaning may not hurt. If you do clean it please post before and after photos.

The truck will not go into limp mode, that I’m aware of, with that service message.

Fill in your public signature please.

It is filled in...

Thank you for the replies. 12V98 - I’m not sure I know what you mean as to fill in public signature. I’m quite lacking in computer technology. I wouldn’t know where to begin in posting photos of this maintenance procedure. I don’t own a smart phone so that precludes me from taking photos. I did find 3 very good you tube videos showing in nice detail how to proceed in cleaning the egr valve, CCV replacement and egr cooler cleaning. I’m hoping that the videos along with the instruction sheet from Geno’s will get me through this.

Truck will not go into limp mode. Warning is information only. Drove mine 6000 miles after the warning came on, I was in the middle of a cross country trip.

Why clean something (egr) that doesn't require it?? Sounds like a waste of work and money.

Looked back in my records. Did it at 54 months like the manual says. Currently have 65,180 miles so, i will be just clearing the message in about 2320 miles.

The Dealers May tell 13+ owners that cleaning is suggested. Don’t fall for it!!!

I ordered my filter from Geno’s. Opened box and thought what the HE!! Is this!

they sent the whole kit. Yes they knew my truck was a 15 and did NOT need the kit.

They gave me a shipping label and credit. I’m sure it was a honest mistake.

I'm cleaning the EGR in my 14 this spring/summer. At 110k+ miles and close to 3k engine hours I'm interested in seeing how dirty it is. When I cleaned the system on my TDI the intake was nearly 1/4 plugged off. Apples to oranges comparison, but by design the system is bound to be restricted. How long that takes on these platforms is a relative unknown.

Geno's sells the full kit for 13+ trucks and Geno's states it's "recommended" to do the full cleaning every other CCV filter change. They likely just grabbed the wrong 13-18 kit.

Not on the 2013 and later trucks that use DEF . There is not an EGR cleaning requirement. As per Cummins engineers at the factory . That was what they told us back in 2013
