EGT gauge install question

I'm sure it has been asked a million times, but I'm asking anyway. I bought the Westach combo guage and have it installed ( dash and power). I have not drilled and tapped the TC because I'm nervous. I want to put the TC where all six turn into one. Is this correct? and what depth should I set the TC? or does it not matter. Thanks for any input. Ken
