Old Member, First post. . I have a question. . I had an Isspro Egt gauge installed two weeks ago and when the engine is completly cooled down the gauge still reads 100 degress. . The shop that instaled it said they all do that. . Anyone else have this problem???

Thanks fo your Help

Check it in the morning after being off all night. Should read near ambient temperature. If it still shows 100 deg. then it is reading a little high.

We sometimes forget that the unit is basically a thermometer. It will read ambient temperature and only show zero when it is damn cold outside and has been sitting cold soaked. Not to worry about seeing it near 100. Dave

My Banks gauge is made by Isspro and rides around 200 at rest. The gauge specs in the manual said something about the accuracy falling off near the low end of the scale. I'm not too concerned.

Hey guys I sure do appresiate all the come backs, and I now have another Qustion. . They mounted the sensor in the Exhaust pipe about 3 inches behind the turbo. . What is the max I can run this thing??

Thanks again. . Great Web site eh ?? Dick

According to what I was told by Diesel Injection of Pittsburg, 1025 is a safe number if your temp bulb is behind the turbo. If installed in the manifold, you can go as high as 1300 I believe but don't quote me. Mine is in the elbow behind the turbo. Dave

You can adjust the ISSO EGT gauge needle to read ambient air temperature by carefully manipulating a small arm that sets just inside the opening for the light bulb. By sliding the arm (very carefully) back and forth with a small "instrument" such as a straightened paper clip, you can set the gauge to read what you want it to read, i. e. the outside ambient air temperature. I received this advisement from an ISSO technician because mine was reading 100 when the temp was only 50, so I adjusted it downward. Good luck.

Search back posts. There was one where Piers posted and gave some good information about the drop in the turbo and temps based on the amount of boost you were getting. I found it. Hope this works.

The old rule of 300 degrees difference is only somewhat accurate on an engine producing 20 lbs or less of boost. Once you get above 20lbs boost add 10 degrees for every lb of boost plus the 300.
675 post turbo
300 added
300 = 30lbs boost
1275 total real time temps
As Chris stated we can bury an 1800 degree pyro in seconds if we want, it's how long you hold it there that matters. What we can get away with in a 12-15 second 1/4 mile run is not what one can get away with while towing.

Jason,I just sent my Banks gauge back,they sent me a new one,no question. It was reading 100°F when it was 0°outside. The Banks rep told me it should read the same as the outside temp when the truck is cooled all the way down. Just call and get a return number and they will take care of you. My old gauge was five years old,that's what I like about Banks,excellent warranty.
