Heard a noise from my glove box is this a

We have a 1086 international farm tractor which we do almost all of our tillage work with, so we had it turned up a little a few years ago. It does not have a pyrometer on it so I don't know what the temps are but when you turn the lights off at night and get out and look, the exhaust manifold will be glowing, I would think that this is way to hot but it gets run for hours on end like this and it has never had a problem. My question is does anybody have any guess as to how hot it is running?

thanks,

Cory

the GE loco engines at work under full load will have the exhaust manifolds glowing a dull red/red-orange... i've seen them get to orange/orange-yellow when it had a bad turbo...

if it's dull red [kinda like a oven heating element when not at full temp] it's fine... but a pyro would be a good idea

too hot

It gets kind of a red orange color and no the water temp stays fine, I agree that a pyro would be a good idea and I told them (dad and uncle) but it didn't seem to mean anything.

Most any engine I've seen run with a good load on it will have a glow to the exhaust manifold that is visable in the dark.

Based on what you describe, I don't think it's too hot. Sounds like it's running good and I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Are you running sythetic motor oil? ;)
