I am looking to relocate my probe from post to pre turbo. anyone have any pics on probe placement on the 03 manifold? thanks Barry

thanks for the reply, thats what I thought. is that the same place that tst has you put them with the box ?I thought the guy I work with said something about going in from the top???

Yeah, I drilled from the top right outside the #3 cylinder. It was easier to access w/ my drill. I got that location from one of the websites that sell guages. I'll try and find the directions I used and post the link if someone else doesn't beat me to it first.

I tapped mine straight down from the top just below cylinder three. it catches gasses from the first three.

Rankram's clearly gets gasses from all 6. Anyone now how much better that is? Seems like it would read as the average of the cylinders, not the sum of them, but I really don't know. I liked being a little farther away from the turbo and it was one of the only places to fit a full size drill. Where I drilled. I had the tool all the way agaisnt the back end of the compartment opening.

"Rankram's clearly gets gasses from all 6. " I am under the impression that there is a divider in the manifold that makes it see the back 3 cyl, when in that position.

How do you drill this without the fear of getting chips in the turbo? I guess you could remove the turbo, but that's a pain in the arse. Suggestions?

- maybe grease on drill and tap

- vacuum source

???

What have you guys done?

Tape over exhaust pipe tip,so i hear.

I shoved a blower up the tailpipe. IT generated just enough pressure to push the chunks back towards me. I did grease the tap.

Someone else pointed out that it might not be good to spin the turbo via the air pressure w/o the oil pump running. I have no idea if this is a legitimate concern.

Anyone know how much variation there is in temps between cylinders. I'm certainly not moving mine, but I've been told the back ones burn a little hotter.

Now that is a great observation and yes, I would consider it a concern especially when the shaft would be turning in the wrong direction.

I hate to break it to you Clayton but where your probe is you're pretty much just reading Cylinder #6. Cylinders 4 and 5 are siamesed together then route down behind #6 and don't join it 'til after it turns downward, so most of the exhaust air from them will not pass by where your probe is.

I know the stock manifold is a POC and it's hard to tell where the exhaust routes on the last 3 cylinders. That's why I pitched it and put an ATS on. And it's how I know where the exhaust vents 'cause I looked at my stocker just before I posted this :)

Here's a pic I found on the 03 exhaust manifold. I can't really tell from this pic but it looks like even at the end it is divided internally.

So are my temps going to be that far off from getting the other cylinders? :( Does cylinder 6 read hotter or cooler then the others?

Pre/post

On truck, on TV, Stacy does a thing with WYO TECH, and they were discussing TURBOS this past week end, the tech was not to excited about putting the probe pre turbo, because of the possibility of the end burning off and going into the turbo. when discussing this he just raised his eye brows and hesitated.

just my penny's worth.

Don't want to start a WAR on this cause it's been done before.

marv.

Anybody know what the probes are rated heat wise? I'm sure that they have to be 1600+ at least. I don't know for all I know what I'm saying could just be alot of "hot air" ;) I apologize in advance for that lame joke. :D
