I'm new to diesels, this is the first one I have owned. Its a '01. 5 HO (mods are in my signature), i'm towing my offroad truck for the first time tomorrow. I took it out for a test drive tonight with the truck and trailor hooked up, i'm running the Edge Comp on level 1. When accelerating the egt's hit around 1100-1200*, and stay there for a little bit until the rpm's get high enough to shift so I don't bog the engine when put into the next gear. When cruising down the highway at 60mph, the egt's are between 800-1000. Is it ok for the egt's to stay that high for a period of time? Also what rpm do people usually shift the CTD's at?

Sorry, forgot to mention that. Its pre turbo. Also when I took it out I forgot to take off the cover I had to block some air from getting to the radiator and intercooler. I would imagine that would make alittle bit of difference.

You are safe to about 1300* Pre. But I would try to keep them under 1000* when towing because of the long time duration. As far as hot rodding 1400*, but in very short bursts. My probe is Post and I have never seen it past 850*, people say to add 300* for Post. But others say more like 450*. I need to get mine Pre.

I just moved mine to pre turbo and with a drag comp on a stock fueled HO i can hit 1,500 pre, now when it was after the turbo i couln't get it to 1,000, half a needle's width short. Conclusion pre is the ONLY accurate way to tell were your egt's are.
