I just got around to fixing my EGT gauge. It would come on for a few then fall back to zero. Whomever installed it, just clamped the connector over the insulation with one of those crappy clamp on connectors that U-Haul used to love to use. I cut the bad sections out and soldered it in, then put heat shrink over the connection, should be good and solid now! :D

Not having anything to base what it should be running on, I thought I would pick your brains. It is 53 degrees here, if I really run it hard, an empty truck, it peaks at about 750 degrees. Just cruising down the Interstate at 70, it runs 550 to 600. Looks like 300 is a good average in town. I was really surprised how fast the temperatures crash when I take an exit, normally it will fall to 350 or so by the end of the ramp. Does all this sound about normal? Thanks, Glen

Turn the fuel up. Those are low readings. :-laf :-laf

With just the fuel pin turned I carry 725 degrees at 70MPH. WOT I can hit 1100 degrees. But my 3:07 axles load the engine different to what a set of 3:54's do.

If your post turbo. Don't turn the fuel up any more. Your close to the limit reading on the other side of a pack brake. Figure at least 300 degrees low being post turbo. With the pack brake I would add another 100 to the reading.

I would suggest you move it to preturbo.

That sounds like a good project for this evening, I am off! I have to go to court for a DUI arrest I made this afternoon and I'll need to take a nap, otherwise I would be out there working on it now. :-laf Glen :-laf

Too many variables. It's like asking us what is our favoritre flavor of turbo or ice cream.

Ambient temp

Turbo size

Housing size

Aftermarket add-ons

Tires

Load

Headwind

exhaust size

exhaust style

pump mods

injectors

Gauge wire harness condition/installation

etc.

Whassamatter... . filling in all those check boxes on that ticket stub tire you out?? :-laf :-laf

Yes 800 F is pretty much the Cummins spec limit for post turbo... at least in the marine applications and they are under a lot of load.

The 500 to 800 range pre turbo is pretty much what I run as well... depending upon all those greenleaf factors.
