Competition EGT's

I have an '03 slightly bombed, how hot is too hot on EGT's, and for how long? I will only be drag racing not pulling.

For long term runs 1250*. For short bursts while playing... ... ... ... ... . most of us have seen around 1600*

I had over 100 runs at the track last year burying the 1600 degree gauge for at least 14 - 15 secs. Am I doing damamge? I dunno but I wouldnt want to go much longer thats for sure. Kind of like a smoker, the life expectancy drops with every puff

Same as the Kapt-I have seen 1800 at the track. I have the head off now and the pistons and valve look fine-oh I have 118000 miles on it too.

That many miles and those temps is incredible, so 1600-1800 on a drag race burst ONLY I should be safe then right? Maybe keep the oil changed real good make a difference? I have always serviced my trucks very good I do the same with this one. Those temps just scare me alittle.

while pulling my egt's bury 1500* @ 30'. i have video of flames coming up in my stacks. all looks good inside. has 173k on the original block. nick
