Hi ok I have a 95 12 valve auto with 370 delivery valves, 370 injectors, a #12 plate, and a 4" straight through exhaust ending in a chrome stack. My questions are as follows:

On one "test run" My EGT's got up to about 1400 degrees for a half a second do you think I did any damage??

What can I do to cool the damn egt's off?? I was thinking an ATS manifold, a bigger turbo, HT B2 or similar, and a high flow air intake?????

Oh and My egt's were about 1300 for a second or maby two at the most do you think I did any damage? The engine runs fine so how would you know if I did do damage??

Thanks, Travis

you shouldn't have caused any damage in that short period of time. as for cooling the egts down go for a BIGGER turbo. i was having the same problems with my truck so i put a 60mm compressor wheel and housing on mine, you could also put a 14cm wastegated exhaust housing on the stock turbo.

How much did the 60mm wheel drop the EGT? I am thinking about doing the same thing to mine.

Thanks.

1400* is right at the dangerous mark, but for extended periods. Short blasts at those temps or higher is not going to damage your motor. I have seen temps as high as 1850+ in my 03' before, and although I had a dropped valve, the pistons and head were perfect.

Hope that helps

it dropped mine about 200 degrees but now i am in need of a 14cm wg exhaust housing. so that it can breath more. with the 60mm wheel it raises the effective boost of the turbo by a little bit and gets the air there faster. but it also requires machine work to put it on the turbo.

OK so bigger turbo, which brand would you guys suggest?? High Tech, Industrial Injection, Edge with there ball bearing turbo????? And what kind of boost will blow out a stock head gasket on a 12 valver?? Also how much $$$ would it be to o-ring the head and what is involved with removing the head and having it o-ringed????

Thanks, Travis

well i don't know anything about all of that. That is the stuff that i am researching right now because i am starting to get up there to the point where it is starting to get scarey at times with the turbo that i have i can 35-40psi. And if i had to get another turbo it be a Phat shaft from Industrial Injection just because i have heard alot of good things about them.

oh yeah you can bump your timing up to about 16* and it will drop your egt by about 100*. . at least that is what i am seeing from everybody else that has done it. i will be doing this very soon.

You can slap a 16cm non wastegated housing on the stock turbo for 100* drop, it's only $150 and it will help your top end performance as well. Like someone else said advanced timing will help another 100.

If you buy a new turbo don't waste $ with a hybrid, go with the phat shaft 62 or HTB2. The stock HX35 turbine pinwheel is the restriction, you could put a 21. 5 CM turbine housing on it and still be choking your engine off with the tiny wheel and puny 3'' outlet which is actually 2. 75'' or smaller inside diameter in that elbow.

A great turbo on the market for the $ is the BD Super B. It is easily found under $1000 and has great spool up and a pretty good topend on it. I will have one on order for my 96' in a couple of months.
