I am buying an exhaust brake for my truck. I have read every previous thread and can't decide between Jacobs and PAC STYLE. I have two friends who have the Jacobs and love it. I found an exhaust brake made by US GEAR for my truck which gets installed on the bottom of the truck not by the 1300 degree turbo and is operated electrically. It is also $650. 00. This looks like a dream to me. Has anyone used this brake before or if you know of any downfalls about this type of exhaust brake please let me know. TY

I haven't heard of an electric , I have heard of US Gear , some operate at lower RPMs , which is preferred , some have the remote mount vs. turbo mount .
I have not kept up on which ones have what options , not ready to buy yet . Some what I figured I want when ready , low RPM braking , remote mount = so changing turbo is not involved , do not want to mount a belt driven air / vacuum pump .
Trying to have cake & eat too .

Both dad and I have the Jacobs. . highly recommend it.

I jusr installed my friends jacobs and i like it. Seems like a quality item, looks and fits like a factory accessory. GUYS PLEASE LOOK AT THIS EXHAUST BRAKE ON US GEARS WEBSITE. NO VACUUM PUMP, NO COMPRESSOR, AND MOUNTED UNDER THE TRUCK. ACTUATED BY A SOLENOID. GIVE ME YOUR IMPUT. THANKS.

pacbrake is the way i would go. that new pxrb looks real promising. as far as options of whatever you want to call it a turbo mount is gonna kick in faster vs a remote mount as it has less area to pressurize before creating back pressure. to me there is no real difference in air vs vacuume its more a matter of what you want. i prefer air myself but that means running an air compressor others like vacuume as it can be run off the existing vacuume pump. i have yet to look at the electric one and know nothing about it. i hope this all helps

Looks good to me. What about the not being able to use it in overdrive?

What about interface with Dodge electronics?

I have the US Gear E-Brake on both of my trucks and they both work great no problems here. It uses an electric solenoid for actuation. It also a good unit for those that like to change their turbos since it isn't hanging off the back end of it...

ty. Kind of figured all that from reading up on it. Did you pay 650 for yours?

Upper Midwest Roads (Salt Chemicals)will Make Quick work of that solenoid. When it comes to trans Removal its easier to remove the Brake and exhaust than to work around it. . It takes a considerable amount of Power to operate the solenoid, So wire loom everything or if shorts and the power wire drops on service wires it get really ugly. .

I would look no further than PACBRAKE. They make 500 brakes to everyone elses 1. They also will stop a truck 1500 feet faster pulling 20k pounds WITHOUT using the brake pedal than the jacobs brake. . of course it is up to you... . but If I invest my money I want the best for a little more.

It works with electronics same as jacobs and Pac. As for the overdrive not sure yet. I have a manual.

It doesn't interface with the vehicle electronics it has it's own unit. As for overdrive I use it in any gear, naturally as I slow down I grab a lower gear... ... .

Iv looked at the US Gear unit and was thinking about going that way myself.

Since Dodge saw fit to not retrofit a brake for an 05 auto and I dont want to add a brake and another electronic package to make it work,IMHO, the US Gear is the way to go.

I have had 3 Pac brakes now and my current one is a remote mount under the truck, since I went to a bigger turbo I could no longer use my turbo mount brake, plus the current brake is the PXRB and I am VERY impressed with its stopping power compared to the previous model. Heck I hardly use my brakes, I constantly have people tell me my brake lights are not working, little do the know I am not using them.

My biggest reason for not going with the Jacobs was that you have to run a special serpintine belt on your truck so if it ever breaks I did not want to run the risk of not being able to find one versus the stock one being readily availiable.

P. S. 2 of my PacBrakes came from Jim (Known as JELAG on the forum here ) and have been very impressed with him.

Been looking at previous threads and people seem to have a lot of problems wikth the air actuated brake sticking in the cold weather. Not too crazy about that.

Oo. My vacuum actuated Pacbrake on my 99' stuck in cold weather also. I will be purchasing a PXRB for my 06' as soon as the funds are available ... ... . Oo.

It Only does it in -0 cold, and only briefly, generally at startup, I have tried to isolate the cause. My solution was to drain the auxiliary Tank to 0 Psi in (extreme cold). The compressor will start Immediately and Build until 110 Psi or So, Here a a Link

Although Pac has a Jennie Valve on the Compressor I think they should included a BOV in the Tank,We will no longer install the Brake without One.

Myself and many others have had complete failures of the Jacob's vacuum pump at very inconvenient times. I would not buy Jacob's again. There is much better performance and reliability to be found with others.
