2001 2500 5.9 DIESEL. 198,200 miles Bought it new. Worked it hard for the first 9 years. Now it goes to Lowes and the landfill. A couple of weeks ago I started having weird things
happen. The left turn signal blinks rapidly. New bulb did not solve the problem. Then the cruise control wouldnt work when the lights were on. Then the blower motor only works at speed
and stops when idling. Then yesterday, the check engine light came on. When I turned on the parking lights, the truck died. When I turned them off, it runs fine. I have two codes, P 0234 overboost and P 1689 which Im not sure about. Afraid to try the cruise control. I have good troubleshooting skills being in the low voltage industry. If someone can point me in the right
direction I think I can figure this out.

I have never been inside the engine. Original fuel pump, VP, stock everything except for a 5 inch exhaust. I did add a low pressure light from Blue Chip diesel. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check and clean all the grounds on the truck. At first pass, it sounds like a loss of ground,or electrical noise.

to GAmes and rkressg: Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have the service manuals and thanks for the info on a bad ground. I will have to get to it next weekend. As a matter of course should I
change the battery cables? They are the originals. I will keep you all posted.

I just recently replaced my battery clamps. Unless your cables have a ton of corrosion inside the insulation they should last forever. I cut/melted the old clamps off, soldered new connectors on the ends and installed some quality lead military clamps. Should be good for another 1.2 million miles.
